KOReader: a document reader for PDF, DJVU, EPUB, FB2, HTML, ... (GPLv3) - Page 33

I'm not able to start KOReader nightly #433 on a 4GB non Japan PW2, 9017. No problems with #414.

I tried several update methods, Update KOReader via the KUAL menu, a manual update, I even removed the folder koreader from extensions and from root and did a fresh install of #433, but KOReader still refuses to start.

KUAL just exits and directs me to the kindle homescreen. Did someone else experience similar problems?

What firmware version?
Was the firmware updated between your trials?
Will nightly #414 still work?

As I said, it's a 4 GB non-Japanese PW2, so firmware is 5.4.5, otherwise kindlets wouldn't run

No! The device was delivered with firmware 5.4.3.2. I did the jailbreak, then updated to 5.4.5, to be able to run kindlets. After the update I installed MKK, KUAL and KOReader #414, which did run fine. When I updated to #433 KOReader wouldn't start.

Yes, that's what I meant with "No problems with #414". Sorry for my poor English and thank you very much for answering to my problem

I'm running nightly #414 now and I'm happy with it, but of course I would like to be able to update to new versions of KR

(BTW KUDOS to all who are involved in this Project. After being sceptical for a long time, I'm a big fan of KR now!).

You skip the part where you had reverted to build #414 in your first post after learning that the more recent build did not work.

@trekk: Hmm, strange, that should be the other way around. I actually supposedly fixed handling of the new 4GB PW2 in the most recent version, not broke it. >_<".

I'll check it out and get back to you.

In the meantime, could you post the output of your koreader/crash.log file? That might shed some light on the matter

Started re-reading my PR, spotted my mess 2s later. >_<".

Good(?) news: it's actually broken on *all* Kindles

. And so early that you don't get a nice crash.log.

Bad news: I also managed to mess something else up, which might also affect Kobos. I'm awesome.

TL;DR: Yeah, stay away from -433, even on Kobos, my bad. >_<.

Dam... Just reinstalled fo rthe crash.log.

You are right, the crash log is unchanged and empty.

Well, the developers here can not claim to **never** shoot themselves in the foot.

But they miss the foot much more often than Amazon/Lab126 does.
(Witness Lab126's recent disabling of Active Documents (even Amazon's ADs) in their 5.4.x firmware series.)

When I use reflow mode in pdfs, the bottom of the last line is often missing, and after I turn the page, the top of the same line is also missing.
Is it possible to align the text to the screen in reflow mode, so only full lines are displayed? Like in mobi or epub.

Not a dev, so I only know how to circumvent issues, not fix 'em. What I did in defaults.lua is increased DOVERLAPPIXELS = 30 to 45. Now even if the bottom line of the current page is truncated, it is fully displayed on the next page.

Hmm...
Your missing 1/2 a line, so add a 1/2 line to the page overlap.
Certainly sounds like a reasonable thing to do.

I do recall reading (here) about this issue in the past, but I do not recall the details (or any links).
I **think** it had to do with the font files in use, but am not sure.

Perhaps someone with a better memory than mine will spot this conversation thread and come to the rescue.

Can I turn off overlapping? Like in ebook formats. So only full lines are displayed, and lines are not repeated after page turn. It would be the perfect solution. I remember Duokan does that in reflow mode.
