I wonder if that affiliate MIGHT be a US Independent book reseller (the ABA portion at least). Where did you buy your device? |

I did buy it locally at an independent bookstore, The Book Cellar. Btw, is it normal with newer firmware that the light now stays on while charging? Which is annoying in itself, but when I disconnect the reader, the light level gets put down to a minimal amount, which means readjusting it everytime. 3.5.0 remembers the light state across sleep, PC connection and power off. So, if it was on and you do one of these, it will be on again afterwards. But, there are some problems. If the light level is 1%, it won't turn on. And sometimes it changes the level. I don't have a pattern for this.

Whether or not the Desktop/WiFi will update to 3.5.0 is a different story.

Issues with kepub are always blamed on the publisher while the publisher has nothing to do with kepubs. Kepubs are Kobos proprietary format and the only one to blame if the regular epub (for which is the publisher responsable) contains no errors or has no display issues. Kobo never updates existing kepubs (this is the case for Dutch and German ebooks). Once a kepub is faulty it will stay faulty forever. Contacting Customer Care about it is pointless. Start reading this post from the top. Also note that consumers are not equal North American customers getting better customer care than European customers. Smaller language territories are treated differently than larger language territories. If you read MR frequently *North American disputes are solved more prompty, and/or receive higher "exra"/"bonus" compensation: higher coupons. Last edited by Anak; 08-01-2014 at 08:24 AM.

I suppose I should be happy that it keeps my light setting after sleep state.

Did you get 3.5.0 sent to you before? Or did you sideload it?

I've also noticed that sometimes, when the level has been modified by itself: + The shown % value does not match the real light intensity. + The % value show in the drop-down upper menu is different from the value shown in the brightness slider itself. Using the brightness slider "fixes" the issues and everything gets normal again... Last edited by arspr; 08-01-2014 at 10:18 AM.

As example, don't know the real firmware and number so I just give them a name, sony had an upgrade with some mistakes. Latest stable version was 3.1, the faulty one was 3.2 and they pulled it back, offering 3.3 as a new one, but in fact, the 3.3 was 3.1 so everyone with a defect 3.2 got an upgrade called 3.3 what was in fact their original 3.1... So if Kobo 3.5.0 was wrong and they know, why didn't they replace it for the latest one stable one.. ?? or do I now trust the Kobo company to much ? They didn't removed it from their server... it is not that I don't believe you but if I was Kobo I would take the 3.5.0. offline and would "update" the ones with a faulty 3.5.0...back again, we only know the status from people here on this forum, but how many Kobo owners are present here... we don't know they really stop sending it, or just didn't send it to the ones present here.. | |

Whether 3.1.1 (pr 3.1.0, I am not sure which you mean) would be a better choice as 3.3.0, I don't know. (By the way, livrariacultura is sending 3.3.1) For "real" reading with Kobo software, I am still using 2.6.1. That they did not remove 3.5.0 from the server is for me also understandable. Kobo did not recommend to side load updates, but advised against it. And, maybe most important, they did not publish the download link to start with, but somebody sniffed the traffic. And we don't actually have real evidence that 3.5.0 is not being sent out. If someone who previously received it did a factory reset and received 3.3.0 instead. My son's Glo is still on 3.3.0. But, I think it received that about four weeks after the initial release. This is a device bought in Australia with "Kobo" as the affiliate.

Does it seem that the rollouts are being spread out? It's seeming to take a lot longer for the non-prime affiliates to get updated.

I just discovered a 3.3.0 bug that's been fixed in 3.5.0 (I don't remember anyone raising it, so please forgive if they have). When plugging my Glo into a power only USB (wall plug), in 3.3.0, it thought that I was connecting to a computer, and asked if I wanted to connect? In 3.5.0, the Glo has gone back to the normal behaviour of "don't ask, just charge". |
