YW; this thread is very long and quite daunting to navigate if you don't follow it every few days. So I try to keep a listing of all current offers in the opening post. That makes it easier to check for new offers. Also, if you scan through the rest of the post, you'll find sales and free titles from other sources. There are quite a few free titles currently available.

I plan to update the OP shortly to weed out expired offers and add new ones. So check back later.

I discovered an issue with a Recorded Books title recently. Customer service is working on a fix; it's a favorite book of mine, so I'm waiting on that rather than accepting the refund they offered. I'm surprised no one else has noticed this one: it's at least two prolonged instances of the audio stuttering and skipping, as if the Audible version was ripped from a scratched CD. I wonder if some people don't just assume something is wrong with their download/device, shrug, and put up with it.

I had the same issue with Bleak House. Finally, I said enough was enough and they gave me a refund that I used to buy a different version of the book (with a different narrator) so far, so good on it.

After I contacted Audible, I looked at approximate times I'd jotted down for the repetitions and a light bulb went off in my head. I realized that the repetitions were coming at about every 70-ish minutes--the usual time of a CD. I've listened to some library CDs where the narrator says "End of Disc 1," then for the next, "Beginning of Disc 2." When the break isn't at a chapter, sometimes the disc repeats the last sentence of the previous disc.

So I think this file was prepared from a set of CDs, and somebody cut out all those disc designations without checking for the repetitions. Don't know if that would have the publisher creating the file, or Audible.

Makes sense. I've had CD's go as far back as repeating the entire last paragraph, but usually it's just the last sentence as you mention.

Probably I should have said paragraph. Seems OK for the text to repeat when you'd physically need to remove and reload a CD, but it's jarring when listening to a continuous file. Initially I thought my Clip Zip had gone a little kerflooey or I was accidentally hitting rewind.

There are also two free versions of "The Red Badge of Courage" at librivox.org. I know nothing about the quality of any, however.

The other readers may be like me, Catlady. I have accumulated maybe a hundred (I know that that is not a lot for some of you) audiobooks, some very long. I haven't had time to listen to them. I keep buying ones that look promising when they're bargain-priced, thinking "I'll have time to listen to them one day." So, I don't know if the recordings are good or not on those.

Welcome to August! Although Sync is winding down for the beginning of another school year (booo!!) there are still audiobooks to be had. First, if you are normally one to ignore the freebie of the month from ChristianAudio, you might want to pay attention. This month, they are offering "Anna and the King of Siam" by Margaret Landon for free. This one was nominated for an Audie a while back, so I know it must be very well-done. As usual if you are interested it can be found here. If you're a fan of the musical "The King and I" you will want to check this out.

Speaking of theater, I stumbled on to an Audible freebie. If you're interested in LA Theatre Works' production of "The Explorer's Club" you can get it for free here. This isn't the whispersync deal of the month (which I hope to find soon) and can be gotten directly from Audible for free.

Is it just me or is this their third straight month of a fiction freebie? If this is their new direction, I must say I don't like it much.
