I've been using Kobo codes for "new gotta haves" where possible, but then I go to my backlist...the stuff I have as Ent corpses but want to convert to digital. That way, I'm getting solid value out of the codes, but I'm not increasing my TBR stack with (so many) new books. Granted, sometimes that strategy backfires on me and I end up buying a ten-book series that I've been meaning to get into...

I wanted to get the Ilona Andrews ebooks that are on sale today, but so far, I've resisted. I already bought a ton of books this month. Maybe I won't get them. I already have them on paperback and other similar series...YAY for me for not buying(so far).

I think it depends on whether you want to replace your paperbacks, and you have enough disposable income.

If both are true, go for it. They won't add to your TBR stack, only your TBRR stack

And, if there's a used-book store in your area, selling the paperback to them usually comes pretty close to covering the price of that ebook. (MMPB cover price $8, used shop usually sells for half that and gives half their price in trade, that's $2, same as the ebook price.) Luckily, it so happens that the used-book shop in my area is also a used-other-media shop, so I can use my credit on movies as well as not-available-as-ebook titles...

I purchased two books during the latest Kobo contest. Less than $5.00 combined. There were a few more titles that I was mildly tempted to grab but as I'm not prepared to read them at this time I held off.

I would have liked to say that resistance was not futile for me and I bought only *two* Jack Reacher books during the latest Kobo contest too... except they were "bundles" which, in actuality, add 18 new books to my library lmao. And of course, I bought more than just the Jack Reacher books. Reality is cruel.

Not sure if those 75% coupon deals are a blessing or a curse!

Thanks for the reminder ...I've been meaning to finish off my reacher collection as well  .I'll do my best to hold out, especially cause I don't have anymore big codes, but bundles make it better

The last round of Kobo coupons got me again. Sigh. Yes, most of the books I bought were from already-existing wishlists, but I also ended up adding some new books first into the wishlist and then just buying them...

I'm now at just under 100 ebooks bought for myself this year. I suspect the target of no more than 120 is going to prove impossible. I do intend to keep trying, though, instead of just going "eh, this is a lost cause" and going on a binge, because even if I end up at 150-180, it's still better than 200+.

At least thanks to the coupons, I've only had a couple of recent purchases at regular price ($5-10), which were books I wasn't willing to wait on. I even managed to convince myself to cancel a couple of preorders (for books I did want in the near future but decided I wasn't going to read absolutely immediately) and got them with Kobo coupons, too.

This goes for me, too. My resolution has been risible in the face of Kobo contests, but it still helps somewhat at the margins. But oh, the number of unread books! Sheer insanity.

I'm going to reveal an unfortunate truth about myself: I look at some GR profiles and see they have some three or four thousand books on their want-to-read lists and I snicker a bit. But then I think of how many unread books I have in Calibre that I'd never, ever put on a want-to-read list at GR and the situation is exactly the same in essence, if not quite in quantity; mine's just a secret vice.

Yes, indeed.

I suspect a lot of people do use GR want-to-read lists a lot like wishlists. I've been sticking a lot of books onto mine - whenever I've seen a friend add something that looks remotely like something I might be interested in; it doesn't necessarily mean I will buy it or intend to read it, but it's a handy list anyway.

Although once I learned about making exclusive shelves, I've used the default Want to Read shelf for those books I already own, and added a separate exclusive wishlist shelf (for which I've been using separate additional shelf designations for "maybe want" and "definitely want").

When I first got my ereaders I started trying to replace all of my print book collection, and I did replace many of my 'must have' books, but lately I have given up 'collecting' and have only been buying what I know will be read right away, and just picking up a few books on sale.

The 75% off codes from Kobo combined with a backlist of Baen titles I wanted led me to a July total of 23 books for $43.06. But they are all ones I really wanted, except perhaps for two from the Humble Bundle which were essentially free with the two I definitely wanted.

So a little over budget this month, and still $47.61 over budget for the year so far.

Yeah! 75% code are not easy to come by for me (considering the slowpoke that I am) and it's a lot better to be able to get many books with just one code, since I am on the old checkout system. That, and a $50+ saving on a $70+ bundle is no joke.

Same for me! I ended up adding new books to my wishlist, even from authors I've never read before. I guess the plus side is that it has "prompt" me to read "outside of my comfort zone" and discover new genres/authors.
