why on earth would you assume that ??? with me, it's much safer to assume i *haven't* seen whatever movie you're talking about, and correct your assumptions later if necessary (example : never seen star wars.). i'm not even sure what movie exactly you're talking about, at this point.

The "you are false data. Therefore I shall ignore you" quote is from "Dark Star" -- but I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't recognize it, till s-one SAID that's where it was from. As mentioned, character Pinback is trying to talk a "Smart Bomb" into not exploding. But the bomb says the quote in the first line.

Wasn't "Dark Star" a rather small release film? I only know about it cause a friend has a copy directly from the creator. Or is it available somewhere these days?

It's John Carpenter's first film. It's SciFi (humour), not horror. If your mind is suitably ... er... something, then it is a hysterical film (though almost no-one seems to agree with me on this assessment

). Amazon reports it available on DVD in the US at $5.99, but there doesn't appear to be anything other than an R1 DVD. I don't think its available elsewhere.

The wikipedia entry seems pretty good, which makes me wonder what the copy badgoodDeb's friend has. Have a look at that for the synposis (with spoilers!).

Sort of film that I think is worth watching if you get a chance to see it, but probably not to go hideously out of your way for. However, if you do, in the immortal last screen words of Desmond Llewelyn, "Always have an escape plan".

Hmmm! For $5.99 I may have to get it, and compare it to the original. I guess what I have is the shorter, original.

That page with the whole script..... and the other link which included actual audio ... really neat!

Oh, and the theme song, "Benson Arizona" is sung at every SF convention my buddies go to. I haven't been to one in 15 years, but it was way cool "back in the day".

I wouldnt... I don't think the universe could survive a four-way dialogue between bomb #20, montsmags, pshrynk and Taylor.

that's quite possible, but i'd still like to hear it, in my final moments of existence before the universe was destroyed. something tells me it would be worth it.
