Quote:
In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

Songs of Love and Death: All-Original Tales of Star-Crossed Love [Kindle Edition] Gardner Dozois (Author), George R. R. Martin (Author) is 1.99$ on Amazon

Quote:
IN this star-studded cross-genre anthology, seventeen of the greatest modern authors of fantasy, science fiction, and romance explore the borderlands of their genres with brand-new tales of ill-fated love. From zombie-infested woods in a postapocalyptic America to faery-haunted rural fields in eighteenth- century England, from the kingdoms of high fantasy to the alien world of a galaxy-spanning empire, these are stories of lovers who must struggle against the forces of magic and fate.

Award-winning, bestselling author Neil Gaiman demonstrates why he’s one of the hottest stars in literature today with “The Thing About Cassandra,” a subtle but chilling story of a man who meets an old girlfriend he had never expected to see.

International blockbuster bestselling author Diana Gabaldon sends a World War II RAF pilot through a stone circle to the time of her Outlander series in “A Leaf on the Winds of All Hallows.” Torn from all he knows, Jerry MacKenzie determinedly survives hardship and danger, intent on his goal of returning home to his wife and baby—no matter the cost.

New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher presents “Love Hurts,” in which Harry Dresden takes on one of his deadliest adversaries and in the process is forced to confront the secret desires of his own heart.

Just the smallest sampling promises unearthly delights, but look also for stories by New York Times bestselling romance authors Jo Beverley and Mary Jo Putney, and by such legends of the fantasy genre as Peter S. Beagle and Tanith Lee, as well as many other popular and beloved writers, including Marjorie M. Liu, Jacqueline Carey, Carrie Vaughn, and Robin Hobb. This exquisite anthology, crafted by the peerless editing team of George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois, is sure to leave you under its spell.

Discover the many realms of the heart with this extraordinary cast of acclaimed authors:
  • PETER S. BEAGLE
  • JO BEVERLEY
  • JIM BUTCHER
  • JACQUELINE CAREY
  • DIANA GABALDON
  • NEIL GAIMAN
  • YASMINE GALENORN
  • M.L.N. HANOVER
  • ROBIN HOBB
  • CECELIA HOLLAND
  • TANITH LEE
  • MARJORIE M. LIU
  • MARY JO PUTNEY
  • LINNEA SINCLAIR
  • MELINDA SNODGRASS

I read this one a while back on the recommendation of a friend and it was an enjoyable read. Kind of a dystopian Willy Wonka for gamers.

Thanks for mentioning Ready Player One, AnemicOak!
My wife and I read this a year or so ago, and I would highly recommend it. For those of you who might be turned off by the description involving 80's gaming culture, don't let it worry you too much. Although of a proper age, neither of us were gamers during that period-- our familiarity with those plot elements was minimal.
It did NOT hinder our enjoyment of the book, which I think ranked in the "top 10 reads of the year" list for both of us. I'm godparent to 2 children (ages 11 & 14), and I'm constantly keeping my eyes open for good books with a good moral/social element, and this one qualifies in spades. (Coming of age, loyalty to friends, first love, basing judgements on internal personal qualities instead of appearances, etc.) It's too advanced for the 11 year old, but the 14 yr old (girl) loved it, despite the obvious fact that she had no references for the 80's gaming culture. (but she is very well-read

Thanks! Also $1.99 at Barnes & Noble and Kobo. (It's Simon and Schuster, so I doubt it's couponable, but I haven't tried.)

This Kindle book now shows up as 99 cents for me (I'm in Canada so ymmv) but it has also been added to the Whispersync for Voice program, and the Audible narration is $1.99 if you own the book already. I've had it in my wish list for a while hoping it would go WfV.

The Kindle Daily Deal on Amazon.com today is the first six books in the Kate Daniels urban fantasy series by Ilona Andrews for $1.99 each.

(I hope the link is "clean" - it shouldn't include any forbidden referrals as far as I know. But you can also just go and find the daily deals on Amazon.com!)

It's a nice bit of promotion for book seven, due out at the end of the month...and, since Kobo's showing the same pricing, that means it's time for me to pick up books 2-5, the four I only have as tree-books.

BTW, I cleaned some of the extra gunk from the link when I quoted it. Definitely no affiliate stuff in there now.

The link is clean. Simply scroll your mouse pointer over a link: Tags and such spammy trash will be revealed.

This one is clean.

I might have to run out and get a gift card to get these. I have the first four on paperback. Of course they have TINY print and it would be annoying to read. Ebook much better!
