Tapping a group is just like tapping the sort menu. If you tap the groups title then series then author, and assuming that each autosorts to itself, then you will have the sort you are looking for. This isn't what I recommend, but is instead offered to explain why autosorts aren't Something/Random.

I am not in the least irritated.

I have implemented user-defined sorts. Before I make a release I want to sanity-test what I have done using some screen captures.

I reorganized the base preferences screen, creating a new preferences group called sorting. I (arbitrarily) moved the auto-sort setup into that new grouping.

This looks excellent, chaley. My only question is what happens if you want to select fewer than three sort criteria? Would you simply make the third the same as the second?

Looks like a great addition, thanks so much for adding it. It all seems logical to me.

Is the user sort name auto-derived from the 3 levels you choose or can you assign your own descriptive name?

BTW when I said CC was 'magic' I meant in the sense of 'practically perfect in every way' rather than 'moves in mysterious ways'

You can leave the second or the third sort at "None", in which case it is ignored. In fact you can set all the sorts to None, in which case I arbitrarily chose to sort by title rather than do no sort at all.

You type whatever name you want into the box at the top of the dialog. If you type nothing then the name remains "User defined sort #N".

Just discovered that clicking on a link for a group that is hidden results in a CC crash. Try hiding tags then clicking on a tag. Boom.

My assumption is that I should not make links for groups that are hidden. The upside is that CC won't do weird things like crash. The downside is that the items will be "mysteriously" not linkified sometimes. The mystery is caused by a user action, but that doesn't mean much when it comes to support contacts.

I just tried that and it didn't crash. I clicked on a tag and it brought back all books with that tag. The grouping drawer showed Tags M, and the two tags I have that begin with M. I then clicked on Tags and it showed me all the first letters I have in tags. I then clicked on Groups and it showed all my groupings except Tags.

Sounds like you didn't hide the Tags group. Be sure you went to settings / Grouping / Select groups to show and uncheched tags.

I also tried and did not suffer a crash. I have Publisher group hidden, and when clicking Pocket Books from Book Details I was taken to the Publisher: Pocket Books. Opening the Group Drawer Shows me Groups>Publisher>P showing 3 Publisher's starting with P. If I click on Groups I am returned to the Parent menu and Publisher is Hidden.

Hmmmm. Maybe the crash is caused by my not yet released changes to support easier configuration of autosorts. I will try running V3.4.0d tomorrow to see what happens.

Regardless the question remains: should items in hidden groups be linkified? My feeling is no, because hidden groups shouldn't be displayed by accident.

To take it a step further, I've hidden all groups. The clickable links from book details "tags, author, publisher" are all working as intended on my S3. I'll report back regarding my nexus 7 2013.
