Finished The Golden Notebook - what a read that was. Definitely one I'll have to revisit to pick up on all the things I missed the first time round. It fees like a book that will read completely differently depending on where you are in life.

Next up I'm between The Moonstone and I Am Legend. Going to take both to work with me tomorrow and see which strikes my fancy.

(Am probably just going to give up with The Sweet Far Thing as I can stand it no longer. Looking at it pains me. Thinking about it gives me agony. I'm sorry. I tried.)

Finished The Confabulist on the weekend. A completely different tone than The Cellist of Sarajevo, but another great book from Steven Galloway. The narration is quite brilliant and his characterization of Houdini is really fun.

Finished Running Blind this morning just in time before the Overdrive loan ended. I have two paper books from the library sitting here, so I started reading the shortest of the two, Death of an Outsider by M C Beaton. Right behind it I have The Martian. Both due back on the 23rd.

It was a little confusing with all the switching of viewpoints, but overall a very good book, with lots of fascinating ideas. The weakest bits were the bits about Earth politics, IMO.

Next I was going to read Disappearing Act by MArgaret Ball, but I find I was wrong to think I hadn't read it before, although it didn't make much of an impression on me. So I'm skipping that and moving on to The Reluctant Swordsman, one of my recent Humble Bundle purchases.

I didn't have The Reluctant Swordsman with me, so instead I've started "They Do It With Mirrors" by Agatha Christie. it's her 52nd mystery, and stars Miss Marple.

Glad you enjoyed it. Do read the other two books in the trilogy when you get the chance: they are "parallel" stories.

I'm pleased to see that at long last, Baxter's book "The Time Ships" is being released as an ebook next week. This is an authorised sequel to H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine", and is one of the best time travel books around, to my mind. It's long been one of my favourites, but until now hasn't been available as an ebook.

Just finished "Hickory Dickory Dock", by Agatha Christie. This was her 57th book, and was originally published in 1955. When Miss Lemon, Poirot's normally highly-efficient secretary, makes mistakes in a routine letter, Poirot learns that she is worried about her sister, who runs a hostel for students in London. The establishment has been plagued by a spate of minor but bizarre thefts of personal property. Poirot offers to investigate, and soon uncovers a situation far more serious than it initially appears...

Not one of Christie's better works, to my mind. The plot is extremely far-fetched, and the cast of characters rather unsympathetic. I can't recommend this one.

I gave in and bought a paperback some time ago, when I was collecting all the BSFA award winners. 630 densely-printed pages. I was about to start it last week, but was away from home for one night and decided I didn't want to be taking a paper book, so ended up starting The Healer's War by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough instead (also in the Humble Bundle, but mine is the SF Gateway version I bought a couple of years ago). I have nearly finished that, though, so might just about start The Time Ships before the ebook is published.

I'm enjoying The Healer's War. Not your typical genre book at all. It's about a nurse in the Vietnam war, who encounters a mysterious old man and a touch of magic.

I'm 32% into Inamorata and enjoying it (albeit a little slowly) and decided to sneak in two Harry Potter + Dresden Files Crossover Fan Fiction short stories, Harry Potter and the Daughter of Winter and This Could Get Lonely. Both were exceptionall!

Now back to Inamorata!

Mark Frost is one of my favorite authors so when the price became $1.92 after promo code I thought to give it a try.
And I'm so glad I did Very excellent, if you disconnect your eyeballs from your brain. This is one of those YA sci/fantasy/mysteries that you just run with without stopping (to think). As usual, Mark Frost's writing was very good, well thought out and with some intriguing high tech ideas. Appears a little futuristic at first but it isn't. Surprise ending as is Mr Frost's custom. Apparently, this is the first in a trilogy and the second book is available already. Cool.

Next is a dystopian sci-fi by Catherine Wells entitled Mother Grimm. I'm not sure why I bought this. Perhaps, it was a computer recommendation. For 60 cents (after 90% code) guess I decided last year to grab it.

Finished. Overall, an excellent series. And this last book did a good job of tying up the loose ends.

Next up, Clouds of Witness, the second Lord Peter Wimsey book by Dorothy L. Sayers. This is the one in which the Peter's brother, the Duke of Denver, is indicted for murder, and in which it seems everyone lies.

I'm on to book 2 of the Farseer Trilogy. Yea, I know, I don't read very quickly. Although, I swear, it's due to the small amount of time I spend reading, not my reading speed.

Me too. I started book 2 on July 1st and it is taking me forever - mostly because I found a new Android game that is sucking away most of my reading time. I am almost stalled out on the game though, so should be back to reading soon.
