When Kobo has two editions of the same book

There is a book I want to buy from Kobo during the contest. However, Kobo has two copies of the book. They have the same cover and title but one is slightly less than the other. I would buy the cheaper version but I'm wondering if it's in a format I don't want (e.g. PDF). I tried to look to see which format each copy was in but there's no information listed about that. How do I determine which copy to buy?

I think it has something to do with Kobo/Publisher/someone updating an existing e-book improperly (adding it as a new book instead of updating the old one). I tend to buy whatever one has a newer publication date.

...and let's face it, it's all part of the charming incompetence that makes us all love Kobo so much.

Look at the "Read this on". When there's 2 versions usually one is blank, that's a pdf.

I came across this recently. Two copies of the same book but with two different prices. I bought one and it was a PDF. I contacted CS and received a store credit refund for it because I don't like PDF. I took a chance and bought the other copy and it was epub.

It's also possible - depending on your country that you're signed in with - that it's two perfectly fine epub copies of the same book, just by different publishers.

Especially in many not-English-speaking countries, both the US and UK publishers of the same book seem to have worldwide rights (and sometimes neither does), so it's fairly common to have both.

I usually choose first based on whether the book was likely to have been written in American or British English (I'd rather not get an Americanised version of a book set in London, written by an English author, for example) and second based on the price.

If you add both books to your library ("Save Preview"), you should be able to see if they say Adobe DRM Epub or something else in the library.

As Yapyap said that means that one book is published by UK publisher and the other by US publisher. In the international shop that happens often.

I know the author of the book. He's been all over so he might use American and British English. However, it's non-fiction, so that's not an issue. The book was published by Cambridge U Press. I know they have offices all over, so maybe it is from the UK and US shops?

I was abroad last week, and the kobo store had two versions of Nicholas and Alexandra, one of which was cheaper and couponable, so I got that one - it was Epub. Back in the UK, I can only see the non-couponable version - so there may be geo issues, too (though I bought from my usual UK registered account while abroad, and could see prices in GBP).
