And they will air that ending looong before anybody has to worry about George finishing the thing OR kicking the bucket.

The TV show is more than an adaptation of the books in this instance. It is in the process of peeling off the series's skin and wearing it like a coat. It will become the original and whatever George decides to scribble from here on out will be the adaptation. He's given away the rights to present the finale of his opus to HBO. They're not going to wait around for him.

Other than manga/anime, can anyone think of another book series whose TV adaptation blew past it and aired the finale that the author of the books hadn't even penned yet, and was--in fact--still busy working on doing?

It's a weird scenario playing out.

Any modern 32 bit Laptop capable of running Windows, should be able to run MSDOS.

What may be lacking are Graphics drivers for WYSIWYG editors of the time.
A current BIOS should allow floppy (or flash memory) use.
Memory might need to be limited to 16MEG or less (some programs choked on to much free RAM back then)

The HP95 was pocketable, and since it had static RAM, it was instant on. Major applications were runnable direct from ROM, so load time was 0. And a pair of AA cells lasted quite a while. Even AA NiCads would last for quite a while, and could be recharged in use.

My point was: If G R R wants DOS, there is still hardware that can run it without being a 'Compaq' Lugable (5.25 Floppy drive and a tiny CRT).

Either he already has the books already written and isn't admitting it, or he is living in denial about his health issues, which is fairly common.

He is correct in saying that he finds the question to be rude. But answering it rudely doesn't really help his cause. Not when you hear him huff and puff just walking to a chair. I'm overweight. I get it.

Besides being overweight is the any documented evidence of health issues? Many very overweight people live way past 65.

The speculation he may kick the bucket any second has been going on for years now so I don't blame him for getting annoyed and answering rudely. It's no ones business and he isn't forcing anyone to read the books. I don't think he has any "cause" he should help by pandering to the sense of entitlement being displayed by even asking the question in the first place.
