For those interested, the audiobook of Map of Bones is available for free from AudiobookStandDL. Unfortunately, downloads from this site are in OverDrive WMA format only. That requires a Windows machine to get the files. After that, you can convert to formats compatible with your devices.
AudiobookStandDL is owned by Brilliance Audio; which in turn is owned by Amazon. |

Do not sign up for the free eBook. It's only available for reading on your mobile device. You cannot download it to your desktop. I don't even know what app is used to read this.

Getting it on iOS worked quick and easy, but on a Fire (which they say it works on) is a different story. Tried opening the link from the email in the Silk browser and it says to "Please download your book on your mobile device". I had to follow the Fire link on my iPhone to find out the app URL, then type that into Silk to download the apk. Then I had to email myself the acsm link from my iPhone and paste that into Silk in order to download the book to their customized BlueFire app (it also gave me the option to download into Mantano, OverDrive or PocketBook since I have those installed as well). More hoops than I'll ever jump through again.
It downloads an ePub so there's no reason why they couldn't allow desktop downloads if they wanted to. I tried logging into their site with it's new store to see if there was a library somewhere, but it says my account email is invalid. I even signed up again through the site instead of the app and got the same error. Looks like things might not be ready for prime time. Last edited by AnemicOak; 07-09-2014 at 12:26 AM. |

Just in case you're interested they're running ACS 4.2.0 which according to Akshayy from Adobe in the ADE3 thread is capable of the new hardened DRM (That's not to say HC is using it. Can't say at this point & 4.2 can't force it's use in it's settings like ACS 5 can).

You do this all on desktop with a user agent switcher/overrider.
Select a mobile device profile and open the link from the email, fill out the form, when you get the book download, copy the download url and remove harper://fulfill/ to get the .acsm |

As I am inclined to do, when I went to the website to check out the freebies, I went rummaging around the website to see what other goodies that I might be able to ferret out . . . . If you will follow the link that Fbone gave, http://bookperk.com, and click on any one of the four books offered for free, there will be a link to "e-books under $2" near the top left corner. If you click on it, you will go to a page which gives, apparently (so it says near the top left corner of the page), 1,860 results. The first results are pre-order only, but then you get into the ones that are available immediately. The books are priced at $0.99, $1.99, and maybe other prices below $2.00. These all look to be special prices, lower than what HarperCollins will be selling them for later. You will also see some scattered free books, but the first four, at least, are all samplers. If you are thinking, "yes, but I don't want to have the use the Bluefield reader or deal with conversion issues," I've got good news. If you click on one of the "pre-order" or buy now" buttons, as the case may be, you will go to a page where you will see a link (under the "pre-order; add to cart" button" or the "buy now" button, as the case may be) which says "view more retailers." If you click on that link, you will go to a page that gives a list of retailers, where you can buy or get free, as the case may be, the ebook. And, the ebook will be in the format in which that retailer sells its ebooks (e.g., Amazon will be in Kindle/mobi)--not the Bluefield format--and for the same price that HarperCollins has them! You know what to do now.(ha) As far as I'm concerned, I'm overwhelmed by the list, and I'm just going to have to put a bookmark or leave the tab open and go through the list of ebooks tomorrow. Unfortunately, I didn't find any way to get the four freebies that Fbone found in any other format than Bluefield--it seems to be take it or leave it.
