Because it looks like you are interested in eBooks from Apple and Apple is a bad idea to get eBooks from since they are the onces that totally messed up a good thing we had going before Agency pricing. We had discounts. We had sales. We had rebates. We had rewards. We had Fictionwise. We had BooksOnBoard.

Now we don't have that like we used to have. So screw Apple and don't even buy free eBooks from them. I just think Apple should be banned from selling eBooks for no less then 10 years.

My boycotts against companies are mostly based on price. I generally never let politics get in the way. If any of the conspirators offer free books, I have no qualms about getting them.

We might not have gotten agency in the exact form we did without Apple in the mix, but I'm highly doubtful things would have stayed 100% status quo even if they never got into ebooks. Fictionwise was likely eventually doomed the second the Pendergasts sold to B&N.

I just found out about the price drop at Amazon while reading this thread. I was so annoyed that I returned my (pre-ordered) copy of TKaM and also sent this feedback:

Quote:
I just wanted to explain why I returned my Kindle version of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Like many people, I was excited to learn in April that there would finally be a Kindle version of this classic book. I pre-ordered the book, knowing that if the price dropped between the time I placed my order and the time the ebook was released, my charge would drop accordingly. The book was delivered on July 8, and the charge was $4.71 plus tax. Imagine my surprise when I learned that less than a day after the book was released, the price dropped to $3.95!

I know it's a difference of only 76 cents, but I felt like I was cheated. From now on I will not bother to pre-order any Kindle books in case this is Amazon's new practice.

As for To Kill a Mockingbird, I guess I'll just re-read my paper copy.

Why are you blaming Amazon? They don't set the price. The publisher sets the price.

Kindle price $3.95
Nook book price $8.99

Who sets the price that wildly different at two vendors? The publisher at Amazon and Barnes & Noble is HarperCollins Publishers.

+1 to drjenkins

In any case, my post wasn't intended to "blame" Amazon so much as to point out a poor business practice when it comes to pre-orders. And also to let other folks in the same boat know that they can return it for a full-refund and buy it again at the reduced price, if they so desire.

I was referring to your statement that this was "Amazon's new practice". It's absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Amazon.

Quite a price variation in the US...

Kobo, eBooks.com & OmniLit are $10.99
B&N is $4.71
Google & Amazon are $3.95
I had it on preorder for $4.71, but then I didn't have enough funds in my account (Forgot to move the money over ) and it cancelled my order and I was able to grab it for the lower price. Only $.72 difference, but I like it when I make an error and it goes in my favor. :P
Rereading the book right now!

I'd have been quite annoyed if I discovered the lower price after preordering it and the money going through, though. Not sure what the thought process was there. O_O

Nothing wrong with returning it and grabbing it at the lower price. I thought the whole point of a preorder was to lock in the lowest possible price. At least that's the only reason I've ever preordered something. ^^;

HarperCollins set the list price. Amazon (& others) are discounting it so they are setting the street price. Otherwise the pricing would be more consistent from vendor to vendor.

Did the price drop before the release, at the release, or after the release?

If after, (perhaps to price match), then that's just the way things went. But if before or at release, then I am annoyed. I never got confirmation of order or notification of availability for download, but it did show up on my kindle.

Thanks.

In that case, I don't see any valid basis for annoyance.
