A tale of 2 kindles

Hi,

New here so I am sorry if this is in the wrong place. i have 2 kindles. One is about 2 years old and the other is 6 moths old. basic kindles. I have a .epub or .mobi file that I am trying to put on the device. It works on the newer one, and not on the other. Shows up in Docs on device on both. Shows up in calibre as well. I am an IT guy so I have exhausted what resources I can. Same computer, same usb cable, same file, same software. Both devices have the same firmware. I am at a loss.

thanks.

Looks like they are both Kindle 4's.

I looked that up by the serial number, but not sure if there is a better way to determine each model.

You are aware that it needs to be the .mobi file of the book you add to your Kindle? Though I guess it doesn't matter as Calibre will automatically convert an .epub to .mobi when you send it to your Kindle.

It could be a problem with the Kindle being stuck on indexing a book.

To check if this is the problem, from the home page on your Kindle, do a search for a nonsense word (like "xxyyts"), and on the search results page if it says something like "xx items not indexed", click on the number and it will list the book titles not yet indexed. You then need to delete these books from your Kindle (hopefully it will just be one book).

If it's just one book it's worth doing a .mobi to .mobi conversion of it in Calibre before then re-adding it to your Kindle, and hopefully this time round it will appear ok on your Kindle.

If it doesn't say any books are still to be indexed, then that's not the issue, you could just try rebooting it to see if that makes any difference (press and hold power button for 20 secs to reboot).

I will give that a try tonight. Thank you.

I tried .mobi and .epub and converted in calibre just to make sure that it wasn't something with the file.

What about if Calibre is left out of the loop and a Mobi book is copied to each devices Documents folder?

Have you tried doing a factory reset of the problem Kindle? Assuming it doesn't turn out to be an indexing issue like soulfuldog mentioned.

How do I do that? Guess I could just look it up.

Go Menu/Settings/Reset to factory defaults.

Will give that a try too tonight. Thank you so much for everyone's help.

Thank you all for your help. Bypassing Calibre altogether was the fix. It added the series twice but I am ok with that. Thank you all for your assistance.
