OK, enough. I know it's tough waiting for the next code or competition, but please take the bodice ripper discussion elsewhere.

Yes, there must be a thread where only the literary elitists hang out.

To be fair, I think the complaint was more that we'd gotten rather off-topic compared to the issue of Kobo codes or other discounts.

We have a monthly thread in this forum that we actually label as deals "+ Discussion" because we so regularly go off-topic talking about our current reads, etc. Feel free to join us on the July thread. We could finish the bodice-ripper stuff over there.

Pic below. For info everyone - it's location is along the top border: ebooks, emagazines, kids, devices, egifts (or similar, depending on the country that you're in)

It's on the Aus site, but not the India site. And yet you can use a Gift card on the India site.

Edit
I think that it's been on the Aus site for a while, because that's how people are gifting themselves the card in order to spend on sites like India. (because India doesn't have Paypal)

Been using the Aussie giftcard then buy in India method - and there is still a bit weird.

I realize that Kobo charges a transaction fee each time when I purchase a book. Not sure how it is calculated but it looks to be proportionate. I paid for a transaction which should have costed 374 RS but turned out that 470 RS was deducted from the giftcard. Then I bought another book again and this time the book is supposed to costs 431 RS but after the transaction the balance of my giftcard actually increased!! I am losing the plot!!!

Don't get me wrong though - I love this giftcard idea as it helps me to limit my spending!

FOCUS!! You must concentrate on plots, they are intricate! Complex! Not for the faint of heart...or wandering wallet...?

The checkout seems to be constantly changing and different countries have different versions it seems. At one point the checkout would show the store credit balance on the first page of the checkout, i.e. it showed the balance left after the undiscounted value of the books in the cart had been deducted, but the promo code was entered on the second page, so it would appear that the store credit balance had increased by the amount of the discount after the purchase.

I haven't used the Indian checkout, but I haven't had any transaction fee* charged when using my NZ purchased store credit to buy books in France.

* Edit: There might be a fee included in the currency exchange rate, but if so it was no more than 1-2%.

I am in Canada and purchase the gift cards locally so they are in Canadian. Because I am frequently making purchases in the US, my gift balance actually changed to American.

I use XE to check currency, and I find the rate I am charged through Kobo either matches or is better; though they have never given me money back before!

funny, i was sent Aus $25 egfit card as (unsurprisingly) a gift and because i had 0.002 rupees or something similar left over from my recent trip the $25 was converted to rupees.

I have used it anyway but i was logged into to the UK store so not sure what happened?

Anyway India is fine for buying but i did notice one problem, promo code box displays after the payment page so if you want a book that technically you could only afford once a code was applied your stuck.
