In your opinion is possible to modify this program adding a button "load Android OS"? I'd imagine the button press calls some command, right?

That means that the module is successfully loaded. Therefore, the problem is possibly on the pc. You can try open the device manager on the pc and look at the information about USB-Controller. If the device is plugged in and you select usb enable.sh or usb disable.sh on the Kobo, there should something change in the list of usb-controllers. Have a look there, maybe you can find some hint what is happening.
I just presupposed that you are a windows user. On linux it should be similar, I guess.

My Kobo probably is dying but I've tried to install this and now:
  1. USB is disabled (why it is this the default)
  2. It does not start on device start! Why?

Another factory reset... the IV today and nothing concluded

Adding an item to the list and associate it with a command (script file) is no problem. That is actually the main idea of the start menu. But I have no idea which command is needed. I have not the slightest idea about loading Android.

Question one and two have the same purport. Right? The usb storage module is not loaded at device start because I like loading things when they are needed, and this module is also not loaded on device start when you run the original software.

Now I cannot restart it anymore and I have USB disabled: factory reset!

Just Power slider, not factory reset.
Then set the "runsettings.txt" to always.

Luck;
Ken

Tried, normal Kobo firmware restarts.

Now I regret to have taken Aura HD as it is so rare and unsupported only for the "HD" screen

After installing Kobo Start Menu, it is configured in a way that after every second boot the menu starts, and after every other second boot nickel starts. The reason for this is that if the start menu or nickel does not work, you still have a chance to connect to the pc with the other one (namely start menu or nickel).

Edit: Ken has beaten me already twice today.

The default is for it to alternate starting in the Start Menu or in the normal Kobo start page when it is powered on. If you haven't changed what is in the "runsettings.txt" file.

I'm pretty sure to have tried at least 2-3 times and your software never restarted...

I have not disabled anything in nickel.
Maybe it would be helpful to know which FW and which version of the start menu you installed.
Anyway, since you did a factory reset, everything should be ok.

Factory Reset installed last firmware (3.3.0) and I've installed KBStartMenu_04.
