Which is why it's just wrong to call modern day romance books that name when they are nothing of the sort.

Don't tempt me I am not buying any more books till we get on our feet again unless it's a super big discount and there is a book I must have.

This thread and the mystery thread have been great for my blog. Keep'm coming. I've found some great books available on Kobo that I can post. I don't travel to India (haven't been brave enough or had the free time to attempt it) but I have picked up some good stuff!!! I'm waiting for the next trivia to get some more coupons. One of the books I want is 7 dollars and I'll either have to travel or get a good coupon because the Perkopolis one isn't working for me anymore.

I bought a few books last night and Kobo put a few 1 cent charges on my card. These are separate from the charges for the books. So now my card has been flagged and won't work and I can't fix it until Monday. Ugh. Ugh. And again, ugh.

Nope it means where the heroine literally gets her bodice ripped and most of the time against her will. Most Bodice rippers don't even have a cover like that. Those covers didn't really become popular till the very late 80s and was the norm all throughout the 90s after bodice rippers fell out of fashion. Those are called heaving bosoms.

I had them charge that but only when I added the card to the payment section and it was to check if the card is valid. Are you readding your card each time you make a purchase? If so that would cause them to show up. If not it's some wrong on their end.

As I said, in some circles it did and still does. By strict definition, go with Blossom's history, but lots of people never read either--so they only know the genre by the covers. I never read the kind of books Blossom is talking about, but certain read plenty with covers like you posted. I still used the term and generally don't assume when I see it that the person is using it under the strictest of terms.

Well the truth is, regardless of what others may claim, that the term "bodice ripper" came from the well known fact that it is the readers who rip their own bodices open while reading them.
