AuntyKatKat, AnemicOak, very cool!

Just a heads up for anyone who's collecting the Reed Brothers series by Tammy Falkner, Proving Paul's Promise
also at Kobo

came out early [today]. Great timing for me because I just finished a book last night.

I love shoes (my closet knows it). I prefer the colouring in Auntykat's shoes but the other shapes. Anyway, I like both of them.

The first 2 were my favorite [about Logan and Emily], but I've been waiting for Paul's story since the start so I'm excited.

I've had this one in my library since it came out, I really need to get on this one, it's rated ridiculously high: 4.52 with over 12,000 ratings at GoodReads! This is the first time it's been on sale for
$1. Making Faces by Amy Harmon
blurb: Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.
Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

I just Googled Amy Harmon and realized that I've visited her page before (I rarely clear my browsing history). But I can't remember anything, e.g. what prompted me to look for her in the first place, etc.

Anyway, the story seems really good. And I love that it's a standalone. I'll put that in my wishlist, since the price isn't dropped on Kobo (yet?).

I grabbed Making Faces too, based on the ridiculously high ratings and the fact that it's not in first person for a change.

Ok who's read Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers? It is coming out in ebook this month, $3.82 for a 700+ page book! I don't know if I ever read anything by that author. Published in 1974. Who is planning to read it? I looked it up because it's on the character Charley Davidson's book shelf, mentioned several times. Some of the reviews on goodreads are great!

If you are going to read this book, just be aware that it's one of those epic, rip-roaring, historical bodice rippers with a hugely alpha-hole "hero", forced seduction, and infidelity around every corner. In fact, it's one of the books that inspired the "bodice ripper" nickname. It was one of the first romances I ever read and I absolutely adored it back in the day, but I don't think I could ever reread it.

Yay, I always wanted to read this one. As far as I can tell, I didn't read it yet, but my memory is blurry on some stuff as I started reading books in german and sometimes I get mixed up in the head when I don't recognize titles.

Oh I hope they didn't edit it for modern audiences. Aren't Rogers and Woodiwiss kind of considered to have started the epic saga type historical romances? I finally read The Flame and the Flower a while back and I think they kept it in its original glory.

I might pre-order this. What a fantastic price for such a long book.

I own the hardback of this book and it's definitely a real bodice ripper. Not for the faint in heart. This one is right up there with Storm Fire. The cruelty is over the top scary.

Oh I expect an all out assault on my sensibilities. .
I read some crazy ones way back. There seemed to be lots of Harem stories too.
Heck even my beloved "Angelique" series is not for the faint of heart. More harem in that one too among lots of other stuff.
I read that when I was 11-13 or so. Those were written in the 60's though. Also not really romance.

I have to be in the mood for them. I am a big mood reader. Sometimes I just feel like reading something that I want to simultaneously throw against the wall and clutch to my chest.

Plus I am such a huge fan of historical romance that I want to read at least many of the older greats. As long as I know what I am getting into I am good.

Storm Fire is another one I want to get my hands on. The used prices are outrageous on that one and I want an ebook anyway. I don't know if I'l ever get one. And again, I might have read that one before in the past, who knows. Things are blurry back there.
Would have had to be in german translation though since obviously that is what I could only read at the time. So if it wasn't translated, I haven't read it yet.

Just as long as you are prepared you should be okay then. Have you read Stormfire by Christine Monson ? OMG it's the most memorable book I have ever read. I don't think we will ever see her books in ebook. She passed away a long time ago and was quite upset years later she written them but if you ever get your hands on a copy it's well worth it.

Thanks for the interesting perspectives. I don't know if I want to read it, or not. I'll read many more reviews before I decide.

Weren't you the one who read the Arrange Marriage book and had problems with some of things that happen? If so I don't know if you wouldn't be able to stand this one. It's really intense and it has all sort of horrible things that happen to the heroine in it.

Like Atunah said I have to be in the mood for a bodice ripper. The last one I read was Lady Vixen by Shirlee Busbee and it would be considered light hearted compared to Sweet Savage Love.
