Yes, I've read The God Delusion and The Selfish Gene, and am in awe of the man's intellect. He came across as a very decent, self effacing person, and I now have a signed copy of his autobiography to read ![]() Ouch. Get well quickly wishes coming your way. |

Keep up the good work, kk.
Yesterday I went for my first walk since falling down and breaking my crown on May 10th. I had been avoiding going because of the pain associated with my broken rib, which also occurred when I fell, but yesterday I walked about the equivalent of a city block. I could have walked longer, but the rib was starting to complain a bit and I didn't want to push it. |

Lexie hardly ever comes down to the store anymore. The only reasons for her are either to complain about something or to eat from the bit of grass growing outside the door between the wall and the paving stones.
Just now she was trying to do the latter, lying stretched out, very flat and pressed up against the open door on the doormat when her least favourite person, the vet (who was picking up an order), asked her what she was doing. I've never seen her jump so high or run up the stairs so fast. I think it will be a while before she comes downstairs again. |

Listening to the coyotes drum line. They're in full voice tonight. I love this time of year, I can sleep with my doors and windows open and it almost feels like I'm sleeping in the garden

We have a small pack of coyotes in our neighborhood, as well. I haven't seen any since I had to stop my night walks -- but I'm hoping my knee is good enough to start taking them again by the end of the year.
On a related note, a friend was eating dinner tonight at a restaurant named Coyote Crossing when a mouse ran through the dining area. I told her she was lucky it wasn't a coyote. Last edited by cromag; 07-04-2014 at 03:39 AM. |

Just had a nice breakfast fixed by my wife and ex-daughter-in-law, who spent the night because she was concerned about the tornado watch that was in effect last night as a result of Hurricane Arthur passing by. The breakfast was delicious. I sneaked some to Norton, and he loved it, too. I just hope he doesn't try to show his gratitude because I'm wearing shorts.
Next it's back to the kitchen for a cup of coffee to top off the orange juice and the eggs, bread, sausage, bacon, and cheese combo. Soon after that I'll start reading The Yale Book of Quotations. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 07-04-2014 at 09:23 AM. |

I just got my monthly photo journalling subscription. Last month was the first time and I picked it up at the store, this month I had it sent to me and they send it out in a pizza box (the right size for the 12x12 inch paper). I really like this months products. My only gripe about is, and that's in general, not just for the subscription, there's always an overdose of cards and embellishments with words like love, love you, happy, sunshine, etc. Since I don't have a boyfriend I use up the love things on photographs of Lexie and it would be nice to have stickers/cards/flairs that say "this day sucked" because I want to document those days, too.
Going to make a print order for the pictures I took over the past two weeks tomorrow, so I can pick them up on Tuesday and then I can have fun with all my new things. I still need to get over the feeling of using things I really like, I want to save them and not use them. |

One of the problems faced by every major city today is 'what to do with old tires!' You can't just burn 'em. The air pollution would be outrageous. It's expensive to grind them up into new road surface material, but that does work... somewhat. They won't bio-degrade for about 72 billion years... But Thailand came up with a solution. And we can see it being implemented all over the Kingdom. With some clever cutting and a few rivets to hold bits together, they have recycled tires into roadside trash containers that will never rust, even in Thailand's high humidity. Never break. How do you break a tire? Easy to clean with a garden hose. Can be painted to match surroundings if wanted. And not the ugliest (well, OK... maybe close) things on the street. Beats seeing a lot of litter though!
I give you Thai Tire Trash Bins! ![]() Stitchawl |
