I don't know. I suspect that there is no significant difference in the Hardware and that the firmware should therefore be interchangeable. However, I don't know. And playing with firmware always carries the risk of "bricking" your device. I would at least want to know there were options to "unbrick" if things go wrong. Perhaps the manufacturer or retailer can be of help.

But more importantly, what is it that you wish to do with your phone that requires the other firmware? Are there other ways of achieving whatever it is you want to do?

if you're unsure about the cover, I'd most certainly buy it at e-readerweb.nl. And keep your money for a cover somewhere else, once they arrive.

Calibre Companion is an app, which isn't opened automatically. The home screen only shows the current and recently read books. So, I open the CC, search for a book to read, open it, and start reading. And when I want to continue reading it, I can continue it from the home screen without having to open CC again.

In the reviews, the Lynx is the one with the Polish store. If you don't have the Polish store, then it seems you don't have the "Lynx" version of the T68.

Also, the price is 20 euro's lower without the cover.

Only one thing that remains: do bought applications still need an internet connection to Google Play once in a while to verify their license? If that is the case, the reader is probably off, because I don't want that kind of dependency. If for some reason the support of the required licensing server stops, the reader will become unusable.

In the past, I've had applications unable to start "because the license could not be verified." With regard to games to fill some time in a train station or something, I don't really care. However, I've been known to use stuff I like far beyond its economical lifespan.

If I really like that T68 when running a powerful and customizable reader application, it could be that I'm going to use it for many years. I don't want it breaking down. This could easily happen if Google says (for example) that Play version 4.5 is the last one that will be released for Android 4.0.4, and then later requires 5.0 to verify licenses.... In that case, you'd have a fully working reader with fully working applications, unable to run.

I've been bitten by the license verification issue a few times. The most annoying was an app that automates connection to a wifi network with a captive portal such as airports and hotels. The stupid app wouldn't start to allow me to automate my wifi connection so it could verify the license, thus rendering the (paid) app essentially useless. I had to log in manually via browser, which defeated the purpose of the app.

I've also had the paid version of TripIt start sending me messages in pirate-speak chiding me for pirating their app (which I paid for).

This is a legitimate concern, particularly if you're planning on using your favorite paid app for a prolonged period without Internet connectivity.

On my Samsung phone I have them in a self-created directory /fonts/ in device main memory - the same place that CoolReader looks for them.

It's really up to the app developer. Google provide the infrastructure and it's possible to make it so the app has to be online at time of use, has to be online for regular checks every X days or just checks once or never.

So if it's a deal-breaker for you then you need to check with developers/users of your must-have apps.

OK, I'll see if I can contact the developers of Moon+ Pro.

Android 4.0.4 is two years old already. Not that it matters anything, mind you; as long as applications support it (or support it up to a certain version of the app), and the latest version of Play keeps functioning.

That last point is the stickler. As soon as Play falls behind and the app needs a newer version to verify the license, your e-reader basically falls apart. (Or you need to switch to a free or illegal app....)

To be honest, if I paid for a license, and if due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. Google Play changes) I can't use the app anymore, I wouldn't even call an "illegal" app, illegal (if it's the same version as I was using before and had paid for).
