I also always get charged in HKD if I pay by PayPal, from the NZ site. It started happened quite a few months ago. At first I thought it was a glitch but its has done it ever since.
I tried contacting Kobo about it but it was such a hassle. At the time Live Chat wouldnt work and no one ever answered the 0800 number. After several emails back and forth with them wanting screen shots, saying it was my banks fault and just generally not being able to get what the problem was, I just gave up.
It only happens when I buy from Kobo. I use PayPal all the time on heaps of other sites but only with Kobo purchases do I get charged in HKD.
Most of the time I buy from India now so I rarely use PayPal on Kobo these days anyway.

I was so happy to see that some of the John Bellairs books (young reader mysteries) were on the India sale. I used the perkopolis coupon and got them for about $1.15 each. They are $4+ in the US store.

I am not sure if I would read him either but bought a couple just in case!

Okay so someone in Kobo is having a big joke .....

Yep - a mysterious book has appeared in my account and you can tell by the title what sort it is: Seven Nights in a Rogues Bed, Sons of Sin 1!!!

It only shows in My Library (as en epub) and doesn't show in Purchase History. Of course it doesn't show in Purchase History - because I DID NOT BUY THE DARN THING!!

Anyway I haven't downloaded it, and nor will I. But I'm not going through the hassle of telling Kobo because it's in a non Aus account. I will however monitor my bank statement to ensure that the cost hasn't been charged.

As I say ... someone in Kobo is having a craic!!

To all who are interested .....

Here's the Wiki info on Mysterious Press:
Mysterious Press is an American publishing imprint. Mysterious Press was founded in 1975 by Otto Penzler, and sold in 1989 to Warner Books, which was then bought by Hachette in 2005. Penzler re-acquired the name in 2011 and it became part of Grove/Atlantic, Inc., without any of the previous imprint's back titles

And here's the Wiki info on Grove/Atlantic:
The company's imprints, which include Grove Press, Atlantic Monthly Press, Cannongate U.S., The Mysterious Press, Black Cat, and Open City, publish literary fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama and translations.

So when people have got the time they may want to do a Kobo India search for these imprints and post if they are on 'special' like the Open Road titles are. (Don't forget to sort by low price)

Well, unless they put me into debit, they aren't going to be able to take it back again. I was using the 90% coupon, and couldn't understand why I was not having to pay anything, then I noticed the credit. So, all gone now.

I don't have a free book, but I'm using the old checkout, and in the little slider on the right side which shows recently-viewed books, a new one has appeared: The Stinky Cheese Vacation by Geronimo Stilton.

Not so much funny as disturbing, considering what others have seen pop up. I just changed my password!

Oooh... I have some credit from a refund. Perhaps I should have a holiday in India this evening!

Two of my pre-orders from the spring penny madness sale just showed up. I was charged R1.68 for a book now listed at R1,209.59 and R1.59 for a book listed at R1,148.39.

Kobo launched the July 4th sale on the US site. http://www.kobo.com/4thofjulysale?style=onestore

You will likely need a VPN to access it (for some reason anything that ends in "style=onestore" needs a vpn to access.)

Sorry to interrupt but what 90% coupon is this? Is that a discount code and if so where would we get it? I'm desperate to buy a book that was released today but the PERKOPOLIS code still makes it a bit pricey. Was hoping for a 50% at least (sadly used the SAV50 last week). Thanks!

It's only on one of their "select book" links. And it doesn't appear to work on all of those. It's about two pages back. I have the link to the select books at my blog site--if you want it, let me know and I'll repost here, but that code only works on a few books.

I don't know why they do that, but in talking to my associate guy, he mentioned that when they do certain sales, they actually have a link for Canada and one for US. You don't get the discounts unless you are in the right place (really there or vpn access). It may have something to do with publisher agreements, but if it wasn't common before, expect more of it. The last time I got notification of one of these for my blog, there were two separate links.
