I can't remember, did you say if he had a particular skill or trade?
Yep he is on all those site and some local ones. He is also working with a few local recruiters. He graduated in January with a Bachelor degree but he has worked for the last 5 years as Production Worker at a factory before that he was Sheet Metal Mechanic helper for a few years and when I met him he was a Airman in the USAF where he did Ground Radio maintenance and later Job Control before they started contracting those out to civilians.

The funny thing is the jobs he's been interviewed for turns out to be same jobs that the recruiters are sending him too. So there is some overlapping.

Most jobs I've come across are for people who are into computers or very high tech. This seems to be a very high tech town. Hubby isn't very tech savvy when it comes to all of that. That is my area. He knows how to use a computer and Office but that's about it.

Honestly, as soon as hubby can retire we are getting out of the Charlotte area and back up to East Tennessee. Bristol, Elizabethton, Piney Flats, just back to someplace small and friendly!! I want to be able to go to Walmart without having to check the traffic report. I kid you not, it is a 30 minute drive usually, but it has taken me 4 hours because of traffic issues. I don't want to deal with traffic any more!!!!! And I want people to smile at me in the store when I smile at them, instead of looking at me like I'm a kook!
*sigh* I miss the simple life!
I soo sympathize with you having to move to 'the big city' It sucks. I wish I could make it all better for you. I've gotten to where I just look at living here as pergatory. I've put in my 20 years, just 7 left to go!

I know what you mean. I miss the friendliness too. Bestytown is where I lived but it was way out in the boonies part. Elizabethton has some crazy traffic and drivers that I don't miss. I miss Ingles there but stay away from Walmart's meat there it's disgusting Ingles meat is nice quality AND the place has air conditioning. Walmart does not and it's solar power so the lighting in it sucks and it hot during the summer. The best milk is sold at Walgreens. It's Prairie Farms which I grew up with in St Louis. It tastes always fresh and like milk should. Mayfields which is the main brand of milk there I have bought only to find mold in it 3 different times. Yuck!

If I had a place to live up there it would be the Boone area. I lived there before and I loved every minute of it. Problem is not many jobs there but if you're retired that isn't a problem. It doesn't get hot there at all no need for A/C a fan in the window will cool the place off. Everyone is super friendly. I loved shopping there and I remember the first time mom and sis visited and this lady just started talking to me at Lowes Foods and we just chatting up a storm. That's the norm there at least it was then. Mom and sis though we was nuts. I met so many nice people there. Unlike Elizabethon which is a poor working class area because Hampton is just down the road where the really poor do live some people can be a tad stand offish nothing as bad as here. They are just leery of outsiders sometimes. I was afraid of letting my niece and her husband visit because there are some racists there that proudly fly the flag of hate That is one that I wish would change about Elizabethton or Erwin but the white supremests are there. Of course stay away from Hampton for many reasons. I don't know enough about Piney Flats but it seemed nice when we drove through. I don't find any of that in Bristol or J.C. or Kingsport people are plenty friendly and there is diversity. Church Hill is really develop and has some nice stores and newer housing you might want to look there.

That is one piece of advice to give you when you go house looking. Make sure the house is newer built and up to code. Look for grounded plugs and a breaker box. Most houses there still run old wiring and can't run modern computers or appliances as the old fuse box just can't handle it. The house we rented in Hampton was like that lucky was there for only a month. The townhouse we lived in for 7 and half years was only 12 years old and had everything up to code.

Most of what I mentioned I learned after I moved there. Many times we looked to move to J.C. but the townhouse we rented was only 475 a month and it was a really nice townhouse and I loved it there most of the time but if I had to do it over again I wouldn't have moved to Elizabethton probably J.C. or Church Hill.

Oh big difference, yes....we lived in the sprawling metropolitan area of Virginia Beach/Chesapeake/Norfolk for 15 years. Then moved to small town central PA (the mountains above Altoona) and that was one of the first things I noticed, how friendly everyone usually is at stores etc. Very nice! And NEVER a traffic jam (or a bridge lift! Hardly ever a train crossing stop either! All of those were part of daily life in Virginia).

I grew up in a small town in Missouri. So I guess I have a small town mentality. I have to say when I lived in Wilmington, NC everyone was really nice. I figure it's because of the beach. I talk to a few folks here that are nice but most just don't know what to do when you smile at them.

Hubby had his consultation yesterday and the first thing they told him was to get a new email and the second was his resume didn't have enough on it. (Can I say I told him so!) They also told him exactly what I told him. Focus on the Production work while it may not pay as much as you want as first you can move up real quick specially with a degree unlike HVAC where you would be stuck with the same pay unless you get certified training. They gave him a few job leads too on that. So he spent all yesterday redoing his resume and they are going to look at it again before he starts sending it out to places. I also set him up a new email that is more professional.

This is typical NC summer weather now - stifling heat & humidity - with scattered afternoon pop-up thunderstorms that just make the humidity levels worse - punctuated with sporadic hurricanes. This pattern will remain until September at least. It always settles in the week of July 4th.

If all goes well hubby will be working out in this tomorrow. It's a temp job but it's something. It would have been today except he was called yesterday told to come in today by this one recruiter for a meet and greet for a job. So here goes in and there is no meet and greet. The woman said it was a test and if he really had no trouble working outside in the heat to call her at this exact specific time later in the day. The thing was he told this one temp agency he is working with he couldn't today because of the meet and greet with a potential employer. What kind of games do these people play? The temp agency will call him early tomorrow if he can still use him for this job. The woman playing games paid $10 an hour, the temp job which could turn into something more is $13 an hour. I told him to not bother with that recruiter anymore the temp agency guy seems to really want to help and not play games.

We got our first real electric bill today. It's $116 I was expecting higher but I do believe that little A/C helps out alot to keep the big one off which pulls more watts.

Hubby has worked all week at a temp job. He's installing duckwork at at a Jimmie Johns.

The storage is almost completely empty and the second bedroom full of boxes of junk now. If all goes right the dressers will finally be sold and we wont need to pay for another month.

I'd say we are pretty settle in. I just bought a Digital Antenna as we don't have cable. Haven't had cable in over a year. In TN it wouldn't have picked up anything but it works great here! We got all the local OTA channels and I only paid $10 at Amazon for it.

Speaking of Amazon I am having alot of trouble getting my packages from them here. FedEx is very rough with the packages and they never show up when it says they will be a day or so later and now they don't even knock! I open my door to find cat litter all over the place as the box had been damaged.

UPS delivered my latest order to Fuquay-Varina post office even though it says Raleigh on their site. So Monday I have to contact Amazon and ask them for help.

I'm still hibernating for the summer! Reading a lot and just staying cool.

That is a wonderful electric bill - the NC summer has settled in! Stay inside and read!

Amazon has started using the Post Office for final local delivery of packages - that may start with UPS or Fed-Ex - with poor to middling results....

They did that in TN too and never had a problem. It seems my next order is coming just plain UPS so hopefully that will make it okay. I plan to give the one package one more day to show up and then I will call Amazon if not.

I plan to stay inside poor hubby is working out in this but at least it's has a roof. It's kind of interesting. Since he's been working outdoors he's been having me turn the air down to make it colder. Me I have acclimated where I can stand 73F and still put a thin throw on not feel overheated now he is freezing me out!

I hope you are staying cool!

Mine is at 68 to but it's a old unit. It goes off at 70F and turns on at 74F. The little one which I love runs constantly and keeps the bedroom 70F-72F and that's with the door open so the hallway and other rooms stay cool. If I close the door the bedroom will be 64-66F It will freeze you out!

In TN I wore double layers all year round. One regular shirt and one long sleeve tee. Here one very thin tee is all I wear with pjs pants.

Heat does not bother it. It is the cold I cannot take. I freeze from being on blood thinners and makes me knee hurt so bad.

This past winter I was to the point of begging someone to cut my knee of to get rid of the pain.

For me cooler weather is coming so I can turn the a/c off and open windows
