So I query "Looks Like" ?

If anyone knows how, informing the author would be a good work.

And an excellent book in Pam Uphoff's_Wine of the Gods_ series is free for a short while

Free again and recommended

Dark Lady (The Wine of the Gods) by Pam Uphoff

She saved a world, but not perfectly, not everyone. Drained of her magic, exhausted, she could not shield her mind from the screams of the injured and dying. She could only flee through a dimensional gate to an unknown world.

Where she found a town that accepted her. A town that needed all of her limping, injured, magic to save them when they came under attack.

Lot's of bargain science fiction and fantasy on today's Kindle daily deals all for $1.99.

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Weckler -- which I highly recommend.
Neil Gaiman's American Gods 10th Anniversary Edition with author's prefered text
Bradbury Stories: 100 of His Most Celebrated Tales which needs no intruduction
Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg

Plus a few self published works too it looks like including a couple by BV Larson.

"The Grim Company" by Luke Scull" is available from Amazon UK today at 99p as a part of the Kindle Daily Deal:

Quote:
First in an epic, gritty trilogy from the hottest new voice in British fantasy.

It is a time of darkness. The last magic of the dead gods is on the wane. Demons and half-formed monsters plague the land as the final barriers between the realms begin to fail. The jealous Magelords of three great cities sit in their towers of stone and brood over the scant power that remains...

It is not a time of heroes. Their songs are long forgotten, their deeds go unwritten.

But, even now, some few still nurse a spark of hope, an unlikely fellowship, united against the tyranny of their immortal overlords - THE GRIM COMPANY.

It sounds interesting, but I'm afraid I don't know anything about the author. I bought it - it seemed worth 99p.

These are all excellent books (especially the Time/Space/Origin trilogy). He's one of my favourite "Hard SF" authors, and I've read all these books.

"Phase Space" is also 99p. This is a collection of short stories set in the world of the Time/Space/Origin trilogy, and is well worth buying.

It's very much like Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy. If you go by the fan response to it on Westeros and Sffworld, some people think it's a bit too much like it... a few people have called plagiarism.

I disagree with that, though. Not original, but not a complete rip off either. I thought it was a solid "grimdark" sff book, but not great.
