Question Screen frozen, can't connect to PC via USB (solved)

My Kobo Aura HD worked well in the moring. But after lunch, it was frozen on the "Kobo Start Menu". The last action I did on it before lunch was select "power off".

After lunch, I slided the power button, but nothing happen.

then, I force turn it off (slide power button 10s), but the screen didn't change.
turn on again, screen still frozen,

force power off, hold light button and power button, get in hard factory reset, the LED blinked rapidly, but the screen still frozon...

when LED off, plug in usb, nothing happend in both linux(Ubuntu)and windows7.

plug out usb and then in again, LED blinked in normal speed, screen still frozen. If push the light button, the backlight on, from dark to bright; it will off when push the button again. But it still can not connect to PC.

after several times force power off, reset, turn on, suddenly, it can connect to win7, then I use Kobo deskop to register and upgrade it, hope this can solve the problem.
Unfortunately, I am wrong, screen still frozen, the worse thing is that I can not make it connect to PC again...

Any idea what is wrong with my reader?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Sorry for my poor English, hope I explain my problem clear enough...

Since you were able to connect to the pc once, I guess the factory reset was somehow successful. You say several times that your screen is frozen, but it is not totally clear to me what you see on the screen of your Aura HD now. Do you still see the Kobo Start Menu? If yes, maybe your screen is broken.

Not looking like your typical damaged glass substrata, but could still be some other form of screen failure.

When you selected Power Off, it should have left the menu at that time, did you see the normal Powered Off screen?

You might want to open it up and see if the ribbon cable to the display has popped loose?

Luck;
Ken

Not seeing that line between the Power off selection and the tabs at the bottom, is it supposed to be there?

I don't know exactly how a broken substrate looks like. Has this horizontal line in the lower part always been there? After a factory reset, the screen would show something different, if it were working. Maybe the screen is just somehow disconnected (as mentioned by Ken).

In any case, it cannot harm if you try again to factory reset the device (maybe it did not work the first time):
  • Make sure the battery is charged by having the device connected to the pc for some time
  • Hold the power slider for 20 seconds or longer in the on/off position (the screen is not expected to change at this point) and release it
  • Hold down the light button and power the device on while keeping the light button held down. Release light button and power slider after the reset has started.
  • Wait until the reset has finished. Sometimes this can take rather a long time.

Thank you for your suggestions. I've disassembled it, and the screen was broken indeed...
