Next iPhone?
Due out in September, the rumours are beginning to firm up that there will be two sizes, 4.7" and 5.5". If the rumours are correct, which one for you, if at all. (And please, dont turn this into an i hate ios and anything else is better thread)
I think I want the larger screen but dont have huge hands... Might be better for both reading and general internet use? |

Smaller. I don't want a huge phone. If I want to use a bigger screen I'll use my Retina iPad mini.

One reason I'm still using my iPhone 4 is that I don't want anything larger.

I will have to see the final products first. If the two phones are identical except for screen size, then I'm more like to go with the smaller phone. I've already got an iPad mini. If there are different features in each, then I'll just have to see. Also depends on what other things are announced. Will they finally announce the iWatch and if so, what will the iWatch give me. A lot of unanswered questions.

Yes, Harry, I've stuck with my 4S because I hated the long and skinny of the 5 series, but I think its time to move up, for me. I'm leaning toward the smaller of the two, now I think about it, its going to be a massive increase on the 3.5" of the 4S and I think I'll get overwhelmed by a phablet. I must confess to having poked fun at a friend because of his. Then again he has dinner plates for hands and it doesnt look silly for him
![]() pwalker: me too, I wont be preordering no matter how enthused I become. I want to go hands on. This will likely be my last phone so it has to last a long time. I just cannot afford to keep changing... I wish I could but oh well. I'm saving up for this one (and a new camera, new washing machine and new flooring... but those things can wait) and dont want to get the "wrong" one, which I did with the 4S and my ipads, thinking 16GB was enough. Next time round, 32min but likely 64. Last edited by kyteflyer; 06-27-2014 at 10:12 AM. |

The largest size that will still fit comfortably in the front pocket of my pants. I'm guessing that would be th 4.7" version.

I'm happy with the size of my iPhone 5. Any bigger and it would be too much to handle comfortably, especially since I use the Otterbox Defender case to protect it. I can understand someone who doesn't a tablet or computer wanting a large phone if that is their only or main device. I can also understand wanting one if you carry it around in a purse, bag, briefcase. But since I wear my on a belt holster or put it in a pocket, a huge phone is out of the question. Besides, these things cost a small fortune and I've only had my iPhone 5 for about 13 months. I can upgrade whenever I want to, but I think it is a waste of my money to upgrade more than once every two years. As a matter of fact, I like my iPhone 5 so much I probably won't upgrade for a few more years, or whenever they stop supporting it, whichever come first.

I think theres a bit more life in the 5 yet, they only are just dropping 4 from the upgrade path with iOS8. Support (in terms of security issues) will last longer. I even got an update fairly recently to my old 3GS which was dropped from the upgrade path at iOS7. I had promised myself to stay one generation behind on iPhone but it seems a bit silly, if I've been saving this long and will be able to afford a 64GB phone (Unless the prices go up a ridiculous amount)

I just got a 64GB iPhone 5S that I'm pretty happy with. Ask me again in three years time.
![]() I broke my 4.5" Samsung Galaxy S2's camera within six months of having it from it slipping out of my hands all the time, so I'm very reluctant to try anything bigger than 4 inches. |

Used to be, if you were on postpaid in the US, it really was the plans with their built-in subsidies that cost a fortune. So far, I've upgraded every year so we don't waste our subsidies (staggered upgrade cycles). Given the new Mobile Share Value Plans and a pretty hefty $80 savings per month (or $1,920 for 2 years), this time we'll probably keep our iPhone 5's and 5s's until they malfunction.
