If you have a HTML or EPUB file (not from Calibre, because for them, Kovid Goyal, the lead developer of Calibre, will be responsible for fixing your files for you, as Calibre deliberately invalidated them), maybe you can show me that. Or try a trial version of Atlantis Word Processor http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/ and use IT to open the DOCX and save as an ePub and see how it fares.

It removed all the clickable linkage to the appropriate sections in the document. How do I re-add that so its viable for ePub? 2) The picture of the author on the bottom, needs to be there obviously, and the new ePub it generated, removed the picture. How do I make it so the picture isn't a big red x? Thank you!

Usually, all of TOC and images should be handled by automated processing from a quality source file. Since you do not have a quality source, you have to add those things manually, I guess. However, a native EPUB TOC would be impossible if you only upload an HTML. If you want to create one by using HTML elements, you might manipulate the HTML directly, and if you don't know how, a HTML editor might help. What Lulu does with an image reference on upload, depends on their implementation. Best chances are, if it is a URL, the uploader might download it from there and pack it into whatever file Lulu creates from the HTML, but there are no guarantees. Another option would be to insert the image afterwards into the EPUB and re-upload it. Last edited by skreutzer; 06-14-2014 at 12:30 PM.

Then you could try the following: open the HTML in a text editor, search for "<img" and replace the part Code: "TheRiseandFallofFreedomInAmericaRayHall.docx_files/image004.jpg" with Code: "http://c2xcomputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/image001.jpg" If this doesn't work with the Lulu uploader, I might add the image to the EPUB by hand for you (or you could do yourself, if you have a decent Zip program or EPUB packer), if you get an EPUB from Lulu back. The EPUB from Lulu should be re-uploadable to Lulu, right? The other thing is that you might want to test your EPUB first on an e-reading device, because since the HTML is a little larger one, there could also be performance/memory issues, so splitting would be required, and that would be another problem caused by the bad DOCX source. No idea what you did here, these issues should not happen at all. I would be very, very interested in the source Word document. There is no way I can explain the results you have. The ePUB for which this report is written cannot be created with my tool at all. Some errors are plain impossible.

Before you can call your ePub free of technical errors, you have to run it through epubcheck 3.0.1. You cannot rely on just FlightCrew.

The suggestion was to take the .docx and convert it to ePub using Calibre. Do not save as any HTML. Keep it saved as .docx and use Calibre. Then take that ePub and run it through epubcheck and see what sort of errors you get.

Well, i suggest you one easier way. 1. You have the .docx document save the file as a .rtf (Rich Text File) on your local harddrive. 2. use calibre to add a new empty book (icon top left corner, red book) 3. find created bookfile and editing Metadata (mark empty book with left click, press Button E or use the 2nd Icon top left corner) 3. Add .rtf File to the book (click right top corner, small red book to add file) 4. converting Book (3rd icon top left corner, brown book convert it to .epub) 5. adding TOC (Table of content) by editing book, selecting converted book press right mous-button choose editing book 6. Menuebar->tool->to create toc 7. editing ebook to your needs, if is necessary 8. save and close the window Hint: you have to know about HTML and CSS if you want to style a ebook. If you don't have the knowledge it will be hard to fix or change a ebook. independantly whether you use sigl or calibre. Befor i post this answer i create a ebook (.epub) exacty how i descirbe it above. I use some random text foundet on the homepage of a news agency. So it worked without any problem. You might have to fix hedding for the toc, who knows.

It might work better going from docx to ePub using Calibre to convert instead of going doc/docx to HTML. From what I've read of the changes to Calibre, it sounds like the docx conversion might be pretty good. Probably better then the HTML conversion.

I would go docx > ePub via Calibre and then take the ePub into either Edit book in Calibre or Sigil.
