I like Jo Beverley, but her earliest books are...harder to read...because they are not typical. They have heavy themes and include things I don't generally like in romances (like infidelity of the main character, while married).

But her To Rescue a Rogue is on my top-10 favorites list...if you can stand to skip books in a series.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I bought it. She's releasing the sequel, Skypirate, later this year. She also lists a 3rd book in the series, Rebel Prince, coming in 2015. I don't know if this is a book I missed, or she's writing the book she always wanted to finish the series.

I actually have the first two in paperback - they were in that small group of books I kept when I moved and knew, since I was only reading digital versions, there wasn't a lot of point in keeping them, but I couldn't let those go.

For those not familiar with the series, I would call these "futuristics" not "science-fiction romance". They're sort of like the "mistoricals" Blossom talks about. The world-building isn't perfect, nor is the politics. But they're fun reads.

Luckily my library has the Loretta Chase one. She's an autobuy for me. Maybe Scribd will get it too. I'd probably wait for it to go on sale as who knows when I would read it. Just got my books out of storage and it was like Christmas I'd forgotten half of what I own. We need a virtual shelves program so we can display all our books.

It's their work so I don't necessarily have a problem with them doing what they want with it per se (doesn't mean I'll want to buy it). What I do have a problem with is when they don't bother to tell folks they're doing it so people buy thinking they're getting one thing, but end up getting another.

However if they do choose to edit/add I'm not often if ever interested because I feel like I must be missing something of the original. It's generally different for me when it's a self-pubbed book which gets picked up by a publisher and it goes through an editing process (assuming it didn't when self-pubbed). Another thing I'm not fond of is when the "update" their story to make it feel more modern (add cell phones, kindles, etc).

One solution would be to put out two editions. They already have the original written so go ahead and put that out and then if you want to put out a second edition or special edition with whatever adds/subtracts/updating they want.

I totally agree with you. It be nice to have two, The Original version and then Author's Special Edition or something like that. I would buy the original of course. I have talked to a few authors about this problem and they just don't see it. They have no problem updating or editing their previously published work. It's like they are embarrassed of the older stuff when I think it's a work of art and you should never mess with art once it's done.

Particularly if they call it "new and improved." Makes me feel like I'm a shmuck for loving the original.

Plus as I think we've discussed before I read a lot of romantic suspense. If they update an 80s/early 90s story to present day to make it "better" for modern audiences, they basically have to rewrite the entire book to addresss just the issue of cell phones or why the characters didn't use the internet to discover some piece of information.

I've just discovered a writer by the name Nina D'Angelo. She has published 3 books so far (romantic suspense or mysteries / thrillers).

The reviews seem rather good, and the books are currently .99 each, so I just went ahead and grabbed them all.

Nowhere to Run (Stephanie Carovella #1) Amazon | Kobo

Quote:
A dominatrix is murdered; her body displayed in a show of dominance. An actress is found dead beneath the Hollywood sign.

Stephanie Carovella left her career, her friends and her home town of Los Angeles, but she couldn't outrun the demons on her past. When she is lured back by the death of her best friend she enters a world where no one's safe.

As her deepest and darkest secrets are revealed, Stephanie must find out who she can trust.

Will it be Tyler Carlisle? Her ex-lover and the man she left behind. He would give anything to have her back in his arms, but is it enough?

Or will it be Jase Devlin? Her best friend's boyfriend, and a man with secrets as dark and dangerous as her own.

Can Stephanie find her friend's killer or will she discover that she has nowhere to run?
Nowhere to Hide (Stephanie Carovella #2) Amazon | Kobo

Quote:
Stephanie Carovella has had a rough year. She came back to Los Angeles to face her past and nearly lost her future to a serial killer.

Now she has a chance to start a new life with a new man.

But is that what she wants? While she battles Jase Devlin, the man who won't stop until they are together, she gains the attention of another serial killer.

This time it's the copycat killer; one who will stop at nothing to possess her.

Can she survive the madness of another killer? Will she give in to Jase Devlin's advances? And will she see the real threat before it's too late?

Or will Stephanie Carovella discover she has Nowhere To Hide?
Damaged (Outlaws #1; Prequel to Stephanie Carovella series) Amazon | Kobo

Quote:
Stephanie Carovella has been running from her past all her life. The survivor of a brutal attack, which left her best friend dead, she has carefully built a protective wall around herself, but she knows sooner or later her past is going to catch up with her. It's why she doesn't want to fall in love. It's why she doesn't want to let anyone get too close.

Dominic Delaney works hard and plays just as hard. He's a love 'em and leave 'em guy who doesn't believe in forever until Stephanie walks into Outlaws. She is wild, unpredictable and dangerous as hell, yet, he's drawn to her. He needs to know the secrets behind her eyes. He can't walk away.

A sexy, tattooed womanizer, Dominic Delaney's everything Stephanie wants to avoid. She knows she should stay the hell away from him, but he makes her want to stop running. Sometimes, even the Damaged deserve to fall in love.

The third book she is writing now. It's new. I can't remember if the publisher dropped the series or she just got busy with the Silhouette Intimate Moments series and other romantic suspense books she published as Justine Dare. Either way the last book in the series was never written/published until now.

I have all of her books in paperback. She's one of a handful of authors I discovered at the very beginning of her career.

A new anthology at $.99 : Rapture (Amazon | Kobo)

I'm still not sure if I want to buy it because I'm only interested in Mia Sheridan, and I've had all her books so far (but I haven't read any yet). I'm also trying to restrict myself from adding too many new / unknown authors to my TBR pile.

Quote:
This is an anthology which brought eight authors together to help one little girl and her battle with cancer, Sophie Isabella Ryan. All proceeds from this anthology will go to Prayers For Sophie.

Rapture. Allow yourself to be carried away by eight sexy, swoon worthy men who will forever leave an imprint on your heart. This anthology contains eight previously published works by Amazon, USA, New York Times bestselling authors and more. Eight women, eight stories, all for the fight of one little girl.

Forever Black ~ Sandi Lynn
Therapy ~ Kathryn Perez
Unexpected Chance ~ Joanne Schwehm
Stinger ~ Mia Sheridan
Before the Storm ~ Sarah Dosher
Atonement ~ Selene Chardou
Searching For Tomorrow ~ Kathryn McNeill Crane
Rotten ~ JL Brooks

Another freebie from NoiseTrade...Barbara Cartland Audiobook

I do not remember to check noisetrade that often. But It's $6.02 value with Audible if you don't get it with free audible sign up, so here's the link to request it and they should send the download code by email, as they do with the free mobi/nook eBooks.

NoiseTrade free audiobook of Barbara Cartland's THE CROSS OF LOVE

amazon.com synopsis...224 pages

When Rena's father dies she is alone in the world, forced out of the vicarage that has been her home, with nowhere to go and no money. She seeks help at the large wooden cross standing in the nearby grounds of The Grange.
And there in the earth she finds three golden coins, which she hands over to the new young Earl of Lansdale. They form a friendship, the sweetest one of her life.
But her new happiness is threatened by Mr. Wyngate, a wealthy man determined to force the Earl to marry his daughter. There is something sinister about Mr. Wyngate, also another man who looks mysteriously like him, and seems to come and go without warning.
In the end, one man lies dead and another's heart is broken before Rena's faith and courage triumph.
If you enjoy Downton Abbey you will love Barbara Cartland.

Here's the link to more romance freebies at noisetrade...

some are eBook, some are audio...too many to list and I only got Crucifix, Jigsaw by D.N. Leo's romance and more Crucifix Book 1 and a Ben and Jerry's recipes (non-romance) at NoiseTrade for free. I have not read either, yet, but there are many others SO...enjoy! I couldn't believe that Barbara Cartland was on NoiseTrade...and yes you can decide to donate $1 for the author's efforts, it is entirely your choice. A good review goes a long way, if the book is worthy, in addition.

I stopped reading the Walker Papers after #4. Did anything ever go anywhere with Captain Morrison?
