But for the record, I didn't pay for a retail copy of a book only to have to settle for a potentially screwed up conversion from one format to another. If I wanted to do that, I'd shop at Amazon.

Or not pay for them at all and enjoy the readily available pirated versions that are all over the Internet without any of the hassle of trying to make something I paid for actually work. Because yes, those Marquez books are readily available "out there."

Driving people to go for the easier, free version when they'd actually prefer to try to give you money isn't exactly a great business model.

I emailed Penguin earlier in the year when I was caught out with Kobo's offering of the reprint of the Maigret series as kepub, and as far as they are concerned these books are epub, so it IS Kobo, not the publisher.

I had no success converting them to epub, although others here have.

Alf can't handle Kepub, which is a pain. But obok.py takes care of that pesky KEpub problem in about 3 seconds, so no worries.

**Actually, does this forum have a policy on discussing DRM removal?

Yes, Alf has obok. It's just not part of the Calibre plugin.

Yes, the forum does have such a policy so no one can go into detail here about how to do things, but there is discussion at the same place you get the tools.

Yes, pretty easy to do. There is also a modified version of the modify epub plugin to strip out the Kobo junk from the ePub.
