It will go to 3G unless it finds a WiFi connection that you saved in its settings.

If you have WiFi available, you should be using it -- it will probably be faster. And not subject to a data cap.

Nevertheless, as AnemicOak and tomsem said, you don't have to save the network, and you can always delete it. Thus dropping you back to 3G.

It always looks for a wifi connection first. If it doesn't find one, it tries 3g.

My Kindle Keyboard 3g was my first ereader. I do still use it and will always have a soft spot for the device. It amazes me how many of us still have and use one

Yes,I always use starbucks outside home) The reason why I asked is there are a lot "free wifi" that you can connect, but have to enter password to use it. So I concern that Kindle thought it is free wifi and refuse to pick up 3g.

It will never "no longer function" if you look after it, but the battery life will get shorter and shorter.

The battery is not designed to be "user replaceable", but yes, you can do so without too much trouble on the K3 (unlike the K4, where it's glued in).

Yes, thanks for that. I'd like to keep mine going too and husband replaces batteries on things all the time, but we wondered about this one. I don't want to send it in and end up with someone else's toy. I'd much rather keep my own!

At which battery level, I should charge kindle? 40%? 50 or 60% good? There is no battery meter,so cannot really measure battery usage
