Yeap, I couldn't sync my Mini this morning before leaving home and didn't understand why (until much later). So I had to let it behind me which wasn't that bad since I didn't have much time to read.

My lovely new Birthday watch turned out to randomly reset to 1/1/2005 when one of the buttons was pressed. Not everytime, mind you, just often enough to be really annoying, and so that it was past the 30 day Amazon no questions return date!



But happily, when I talked to Amazon in an online chat yesterday, they issued me a return notice and sent out a replacement that I'm wearing now.

I just hope this one doesn't show the same fault...

I received a long, rambling, incoherent request for a quote today (on files in a GoogleDrive, it seems, that I'm expected to just click and download), from someone who signed himself, in the email,

If it's from God, we're all in trouble. If it's not, this must be the brother of the guy from 4 years ago--you all remember him, maybe?--the one who thought he was the AntiChrist, we made a book for him? (Yeah, yeah, lesson learned, trust me.) And he then proceeded to drive across 4 states to find me and "teach me a lesson" for "scrambling up" his divine (?) text? Hoooo, baby! (GOD linked to his, I s**t thee not, 107-page BIO, which is up on an old 2009 blogspot blog, which is pretty much just like the AntiChrist guy's book...one big long incoherent ramble.)

Yup, yup, yup. Ebook-making. It's not a job, it's an adventure.

n.b.: on a serious note: it's too bad that they don't provide real names, addresses, etc.; at least then, I could call their local constabulary for a welfare check, as both of these folks are clearly schizophrenic, or some disorder along those lines.

I can't believe we have had so much weird s**t this week. As you already know, GOD called. Well, he wrote, probably because my brain would explode if I heard His voice, which, as we all know, is filtered officially by Metatron. Anyway...

Then, first part of the week, one of my contract bookmakers, who has her own bookmaking company (think something like ebooks4you.biz, or something like that), tried to buy a PDF "ebook" from a guy on the Net about using solar on your house. She dutifully paid her shekels, and provided her email address.

Almost INSTANTLY, she gets a cancellation of her purchase, and an irate email from this person, who says, he won't sell to her because he's worried about piracy. URK?

So, she emails him, and says, "look, bozo, I work for [me], as a contract bookmaker, and email Hitch if you don't believe me."

I get this:

I would like to make you aware that an order for one of my ebooks was placed by [Jane Doe] who has said she works on contract for your organization. I refunded this payment and refused the transaction because of concerns about potential copyright infringement.

I do not know if she works for your organization but I want to make your organization aware that all of my books and ebooks are copyrighted with the US Library of Congress and may not be converted, copied or reproduced or transmitted in any form.

I am not in need of your services and I would appreciate you contacting me and letting me know if the above person is actually a contract worker for your organization.

Now, at this point, I'm pretty gobsmacked. I ping my person, and we discuss this, and I write back. I tell him that she does, indeed, work for me, and he need have ZERO concerns about piracy. He STILL refuses to sell her the book.

I finally lost my temper and told him off. I told him that the people most worried about piracy are those who are least likely to have their books stolen, and that he owed X an apology. All of this because her EMAIL address has "ebook" in the URL, from her company. I mean, does this dolt think that she couldn't use a different email address, if she really wanted to pirate his book? And on top of it all, of course, all his purchases are "donations," right?

This, plus...the guy who ran out of download bandwidth today, from his satellite provider, and couldn't download his 2.92MB ePUB...and the other guy, who can't get ADE to work on his MacPro, so he's decided to "take it to the computer man," so he'll have to save up to get enough money to do that, and has also decided that he doesn't need to proof his masterpiece, because "the Kindle readers will tell me if there are problems." Naturally, it's the worst-formatted source file we've had in, in MONTHS, and it's near-incoherent, and now he wants us to just produce it, without him seeing it. (yeah..NO. That's not going to happen. When he gets reviewed and critiqued on that, it'll be a cold day in hell before he gets to blame US for it.)

And, yes, before anyone posts, I told him to try a) iBooks and b)Calibre for Mac. Lord. (And, no, GOD, I'm not really speaking to you.)

There's just no end this week. The last 3--GOD, and the other two ding-dongs are from the last 24 hours.

I'm soooooooooooooooo glad that Le Mans is this weekend. I'll be utterly brain-dead by Sunday night, after 24 glorious hours of watching!!!

And, sadly, no Zin or other libations for me, either; far too Irish. Not for a quarter-century. I do, however, @Cromag, really appreciate the thought.

OH, and OMG, I totally forgot the guy who keeps uploading his ePUB to NookPress without a file extension. I've explained it now 8 different times. Still uploads it sans an extension. And keeps telling me our files are "no good" and "corrupted." {sigh}

Please, GOD, take me away (uh, wait...maybe I should have phrased that a little differently).

KK: I devoutly hope you are feeling better soon, or at the very least, that you are heavily dosed on the Good Stuff.
