Well this Contest sucks big time, eh!!

But Kobo saves me money by not having good codes - because I don't actually 'have to have' any more books for a very long time. However, I would buy some more only if I got 75% codes.

So, it looks like this time around I save money by not buying what I don't really need, lol.

PS And I was just sayin' this same thing to me emu mate pictured there!!

Agreed - I hate this contest and the time waste it appears to be But for me, without useful codes (such as the current 40% perkopolis), I'll just go back to buying books on Amazon.

Same here. So Kobo's either getting half the book price from me, or nothing at all. Be happy with the half price Kobo!

I don't like the contest this time either. The highest one I've got so far is 30%. I don't even dare to hope for a 75% off code; just a couple of 55% or 65% codes will be more than enough to make my day.

Bah...nothing but 25% coupons this time so far. Might post what I'm not using on the last day of the contest.

Half price Kobo = almost Amazon price. For example The Fault in Our Stars is $9.99 on Kobo, $4.99 on Amazon, Unlucky 13 is $14.04 on Kobo, $8.99 on Amazon, Mr. Mercedes is $15.99 on Kobo, $11.99 on Amazon, etc. (all prices from US stores).

With those types of differences, why ever would I bother to shop on Kobo without a discount code?

The main reason I shop Kobo is because of the ridiculous ease of getting around territory restrictions compared with other ebook stores... not prices. That being said, the coupons are nice.

I don't know about that--the Jana DeLeon books that I really enjoy are 5.99 on both and I use the coupons on Kobo because I've never seen them discounted (the first one is free everywhere but the author obviously makes up for that freebie by being able to charge more for later books). There was a book I blogged about the other day that was the same way--anything put out by NYLA (I think that is the letters of the publisher) is the same price on both and I've not seen them discounted anywhere so I use the coupons. One of the books is Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews (Urban Fantasy). It's 4.99 everywhere so even a 40 percent code makes it much more attractive on Kobo. From what I gather the sequel will be 4.99 as well so I'll be buying it from Kobo even with a 20 percent off coupon.

It really depends on what you read. Oh, it was the Parenting Yogi book that I blogged about that was cheaper on Kobo with the coupons.

They are out there, but it's always pick and choose!

Definitely. I find most books I buy from any kind of publisher (digital first, small pub, large pub) often need at least a 35% coupon to get around Amazon's price, but for self-pubbed stuff and some small pub stuff neither Amazon or Kobo discount often so even lower percentage Kobo codes can help. For me if the price is close I'm likely to go with Amazon due to past experiences with customer service at both among other reasons. The thing the really high percentage codes do is get me to buy things now that I might not have bought otherwise until much later.

Yeah for the books I buy the Amazon-Kobo price difference isn't nearly as drastic, but Amazon is often at least a dollar cheaper. So if there's at least a 40% coupon I might still go kobo, but otherwise as a Kindle user it's just easier in many ways for me to buy from Amazon.

I won't buy from Amazon, unless I can't find the book anywhere else.
Plus, I don't have to convert anything, however easy it is. Kobo has epubs and their 50% off is a fair price. I do want the authors to get the money, too.

I just got a bunch of 35% off, used two and still have one left, if anyone is interested
