I am guessing the new phone will have a HOLOGRAPHIC 3D display with all the menus projected in front of the user. It will make all the Apples and Samsung phones and tablets obsolete plus making the present Amazon eReaders obsolete. eBooks will now be projected in front of our eyes without even holding the phone. Lighting will become irrelevant.

Amazon may even announce its own network forcing all of us to drop: ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc. They will probably undersell all the rest by huge amounts.

That will force most of us to get rid of all our technology gadgets we now own and pour our money into the Amazon coffers.

Unfortunately, I already purchased a Samsung Galaxy s5 phone with the 5.1" screen just 2 months ago. I hate taking a loss on my 2 year contract. It didn't last long. Plus, all my Kindles will now be fodder for the recyclable cart.

In the near future America may just change its name to Amazon.

We have three phones -- one smart phone which ends 2/23/15 and two month to month text/voice phones. If this is a good alternative, I will likely move two phones over immediately and the third next year.

If this is a phone, and they have similar plans to Republic Wireless, I'm sold! However, if it is an announcement on the 18th, how long until we see a street date for the actual product?

I wonder how many in this thread are going to buy that new Amazon device no matter what its features? I KNOW I will buy it when its released in October if its not a phone.

If it is a phone, I will buy it when my contract on my Galaxy s5 runs out in 22 months.

I am very dissatisfied with verizon, but phone services are complicated -- hardware, service, service quality, coverage, taxes and fees, data, speed, nights and weekends, friends and family, minutes, text messages, etc. I'll carefully evaluate my options and choose the service that best fits my situation.

I use ATT for my phone, TV and internet. I am very satisfied with my service. Maybe take a look at them if you are not satisfied with Verizon.

I use ATT Uverse for TV and internet and use the ATT copper wire service for my landline with the cell phone service being added on. During blackouts, my landline phone gets its own power from the copper wire service.
