I wasn't saying there should be no humor at all, or anything absolute.
I'm aware conversation usually go off-topic here and there. If it's too easy painting what was said into a strawman, then consider the ratio of humor / serious&useful information. Or the ratio on topic / off topic. It seemed to me that the original post had some kid of purpose, and that it is now full of private jokes (whose humor is not strong enough to sway outsiders). I'm not asking everyone to put tag on each of their post (TechniSol, your warning about sarcasm was superfluous). But either this thread wasn't serious from the get go, and a tag or a warning in the first message of such thread would be nice (see my first post about how we could, then, treat them), either it was serious and hijacked pretty fast. If this thread is about Kobo rumour and what's likely true/false, I don't want to crawl through countless inside jokes, which are, sorry to say, merely copies of one another. I've read it once already, thank you. Now, sorry to be some kind of party pooper, and I won't be disrupting this thread anymore so you can keep on doing this funny thing you are doing together, just please think about how useful a tag would be for high noise/utility ratio threads. Oh and I forgot: "ahah". |

Doonge, I get your 'frustration'? at the way the thread went so far off topic and you make a good point about serious posts getting lost in amongst the humour. Trying to figure out what's real and what's funny in this thread as far as rumours go is nigh on impossible.
BUT....I see a thread where on page one, jackastor (the op) joined in the fun and continued to do so throughout. If jackastor had posted to ask people to stay on topic and keep the rumours to serious ones only, I have no doubt the majority here would have respected that wish and happily complied. It's just one of those threads, it happens. I still think our friend who posted the angry flame on page 4 was way over the top. It's a forum, threads go ot and people post silliness. If it was every thread, perhaps there'd be a problem that the mods need to address. But, it's not. Someone will be along eventually with a new thread of serious rumours which will stay on topic, for the most part. Everyone who wants to hear those will be as happy as the rest of us in this thread with the outlandish posts. Win win ![]() Again, just my opinion and I'm happy to be shot down in flames for it ![]() Last edited by leaston; 06-06-2014 at 02:27 PM. |

This reminds me of a product rumour I saw: Urinet. large eInk displays to be mounted above urinals, which would communicate with your tablet/eReader and display the current page so you can read while you are otherwise engaged. A future model is planned for the cubicles in the bathrooms...

Doonge,
What? Me, obvious? Whatever could you mean? ;-) I tried being subtle once, but I was ignored by my wetnurse congressperson. There are some things from which you just never recover... I'm always curious how you self-appointed members of the forum police(I had another organization in mind, really more a political party, but hopefully they've been defunct since 1945, or so, though a few stragglers seem to have something to do with grammar these days...) manage to get through life with all it's messy off topic happenings. Do you request "Do not take seriously" labels for the comics section(or the Political Science based misdirection section) when reading the paper? Do you publicly request other people to desist in their conversations if you don't approve of the content? Do you merely possess so little imagination as to not enjoy that of others? Or do you merely have nothing better to do? Which oddly should give you more than enough time to read a few off topic posts without busting a gut... Most importantly, exactly who passed into oblivion and elected you Kommandant? Just some thoughts for you to ponder next time you feel the undue need to be a wet blanket in a thread that anyone could see as facetious with no more than the slightest effort. |

What I think to have understood from FNAC people (where in France Kobo's devices are sold) is that the next Kobo device is intended for people that eat while reading (or read while eating : it was not clear form what I heard), especialy saucy meal and so would be equiped with a screen whiper. You would be able to choose between 3 speeds : intermittent, normal and high speed (but this could be changed by firmware upgrades). It's obvious that this device will be waterproof and could be used in rainy climates such as the one that is encountered in Normandy for example, for people that read while walking (or walk while reading). For such people, a radar system could be bought as an option to signal Kobo's new device users of obstacles they could encounter during their reading wanderings. An other option would be an auto-defrost integrated inside the device for winter users : as much for deicing the screen as to warm up the hands that handle it (however, you should be aware that the battery life in such configuration will be shorter). Unfortunately, nobody at FNAC could tell me when this device will be available or how much you should have to pay to enjoy it.

A friend of mine pointed out that romantic and sentimental books readers could be interested by such a device as tears on the screen tend to blur the text...

Already the current devices are pretty water resistant. I use my Kobo ereader a lot for scraping the ice from my truck's windshield. As for the new devices, I was told that they are basically the same as the current models, but with a rubber blade attached to one side.

Ice on your trucks windshield? If that happens here in Florida we close the roads until it goes away.

The next Kobo will be a 5" or 6" HD Aura with 8gb or 16gb internal storage and come in a variety of colors. And it will be $149.
So says me! |

The version for sale in Great Britain will have 16 speed settings on the wipers, to deal with outdoor reading, from light fog to heavy rain.
