The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, Mary Ann Shaffer.

I really enjoyed this novel set in Guernsey during WWII.

It was published posthumously after parts of the book were completed by one of Shaffer's relatives.

Didn't realize this. A good read though.

I think there must have been quite a few single-book authors who were famous for other things and decided to give novel writing a try, only to find out they didn't sell. The problem is that nobody remembers their novels.

She actually wrote another book "Animist" published in 2000. I've got them both in hardback. Villains By Necessity was a great book, one that is in my watch list for ebooks. I wasn't quite as enamored with the Animist.

I'm sure there are a ton of one-novel authors out there. The problem is that the vast majority of the one novels never really did well, so we don't know of them.

I agree. But the original question was "what are the best one-novel authors?" (my emphasis).

True, but the post that I was replying to was talking about one novel authors who were famous for something else but whose one novel didn't do well. I was simply agreeing with him and pointing out this was the norm, famous or not.

"Best" being a purely subjective term in this instance, since it apparently is being used as "most well-known".

For me, a best one-novel author is Sandra Brewer who wrote "Murder for Beltene: A Beltene Family Mystery (...Dressed Like a Mystery, with Fantasy Lingerie...)".

Sorry, I just went by the name of the thread when I wrote my comment, and didn't read the first post closely enough. You're right that my comment doesn't really apply here.
