I'm still waiting for BPL to activate my account so I can borrow ebooks. Email last week, unanswered. Sent another one today. Scribd is certainly easier to access!

But yeah, Scribd you just go and read. No putting on waitlist or anything like that either, or watching the 2 week return window.

I still want app improvements before I'll pay for it, though. More font choices - something darker, and closer in shape to Charis SIL. Also full justification and less space between lines are needed options.

I definitely would like adjustable line spacing, the default is too large for me. More fonts would be good, or just the ability for folks to add their own. I'd also like to be able to set my own background and font colors.

Got the Nexus and tried out Scribd and it looks good. The screen goes full screen as far as I can tell so that is good. I am surprised I was able to put that app on so fast, I put the amazon app store on it and the kindle reader so far. I have no clue how to do anything else with the thing and not sure if I can get rid of that large google play window on the home page. I'll have to find a how to nexus 7 for dummies somewhere. Its charging since it was almost dead so I'll leave it alone for now. Brightness needs to be really down low on that thing, holy moly its bright and its daytime now. I think though I will really enjoy reading my Scribd selections on it. Which was some of the reason I got it in the first place. And for those overdrive library books that aren't in kindle format. Its nice and light and tonight I think I will continue with my scary read on it. And I swear it made my hand vibrate at one point in my palm. What the heck was that. Oh and to add that Scribd got back to me about the Fire app and although they put it through the team, I was told its a lengthy thing and not to expect anything anytime soon on that front. So for those using a Fire, it might be a while until that menu bar thingy is worked on. Of course it might not bother everyone as much. Last edited by Atunah; 06-04-2014 at 03:04 PM. |

There is a reason I like simple with tablets and stuff. I think I got most the way I need it. As long as its on the home page I can click I think I am fine. Sure would help with they had a short intro on the thing when you first start. The letters though are so sharp in the Scripd app that I think I will be able to read on it comfortably, which was the whole point in getting it. The rest will come I am sure. Plus its charging and my knees can't crouch on the floor for too long anymore so I'll wait on all that. My bones are creaking. That is like the shortest charging cord I have ever seen. Aging is not for sissies.

I agree on the charging cord. You can drag it to the top of the screen and it should turn red and a X with the word "remove" will appear. Drag it to that then let go. You can do that to anything on the home screens. I can't kneel at all and I only 36. I tore my knees up in my teens. |

I actually set on the floor and started reading a book in Scribd to see how it will be and although I am still fiddling with the brightness, the font is just like razor sharp on that thing. I don't think my bad human eyes will ever be able to make out any more pixels than that. I think this is as good as it gets. Now it would still be nice to have some more fonts with this app and for others the line spacing, thankfully that is ok for me. I don't like to too tight, I need some space there. Maybe I'll send that in my response to the nice lady at Scribd that has been updating me about the Fire app. I'll put it in as a suggestion to their team. But I still love the san serif font in this app, first san serif I liked.

I just loged in on scribd from my PC and I can't make change in display options stick. This wasn't a problem before so I'm unsure how to proceed. Did anyone else have same problem?

My first suggestion when I worked in this area was always to reboot or try another browser. Sometimes there's something random that gets messed up when you're using too much memory or the browser version has an issue.

I can't get my history to clear, I emailed them and there is a glitch that they are working on. Might be this is part of the problem?

Actually, you can strip the DRM from Kindle eBooks and convert to another format to use with the Reader or reading program of your choice. So really, you aren't locked in with Amazon eBooks. But you are with Scribd. So because the eBooks are so inflexible and the app is so poor, it's not worth it even for free.

BPL doesn't activate your account. You activate it by logging in with your library card. I have a BPL account as I live in the Boston area. Boston Public Library is pretty good. Not the best, but not bad.
