Really? Have you ever had a smartphone with ANY OTHER OS than iOS? If so then you know that the few apps Apple makes undeletable is really small compared to say any AT&T non-iPhone smartphone.

A few of points - first it's a developer's beta, so there is no guarantees that how things are now will be how things are when it is actually released this fall. Second, it's a developer's beta. Lot's of things aren't quite finished yet. The idea is to give developers a heads up on the direction things are going and to let them start programming towards the new features. The last developer's beta was quite different than what was finally released. Some features were added, others removed.

+1 for Goodreader for PDF's. I continue to be surprised at how fluidly it handles large PDF documents. I'm selling a house and it is a life-saver for remotely reviewing, signing, and managing a seemingly endless flurry of documents using a iPad. When you go to annotate it does have a learning curve because it is so powerful, lots of tools. I did have to look up "how do I do this?" a handful of times.

Make sure you grab the newest version of GoodReader. It's a shame that they followed the pattern of releasing as a new app (and new purchase), but it's so useful that I went ahead and bought it anyway. I believe that it's still discounted, so if you're going to buy it, now's the time.

In iOS 8, iBooks has become a permanent app

I'm a serious reader and my iPad mini is my dedicated reader. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you meant an eInk reader when you said "a dedicated eReader." |

Depends on where you get your books from and what you find easy on the eyes etc. I use the iPad mini to read books on the Scribd app very frequently, though otherwise I use a Kindle PW2--since Scribd books cannot be read on any eink readers and I am trying to get about 60 books read out of this free 3-month trial!

I have a Nexus 5 and as far as I know of there are no apps that are undeleteable. Well, there are no apps that I would want to delete anyways. That's the benefit of buying an unlocked phone.

Foxit Mobile fpr iOS is really great! Free as a base app, and sync options with OneDrive or Dropbox are 99 cents a pop...
Documents is great too but I cannot recommend any other Readdle app anymore because of the way they keep breaking established features in PDF Expert (for which I shelled out another tenner after the major update). I was an avid supporter but no more... |
