That's a certifiably crazy way to do it
I've been awake since a little after three, kitties have been NUTS! Then poor Aragorn had an upset tummy, not sure what he ate ;o(. An angry squirrel has been angry for about an hour outside off my window, would kind of like to take a nap. Oh well, guess I'll do the strawberries for a dinner I'm going to tonight |

The Vent and Rant Thread
I don't believe I've ever seen an angry squirrel, so I'm not sure what one looks like. I do know what a concerned parent squirrel looks like, though. I recently found out when I stopped the car to shoo a baby squirrel out of the street. The poor thing was so small and frightened it wouldn't move. I had to stand right behind it with one shoe on either side before it would move. I finally got it to hop up on the curb, but its parent, not knowing my motives, was running around frantically. I imagine when that youngster gets a bit bigger, it will tell all its friends of its heroic escape from certain doom.
EDIT: Oh, yeah. This is a rant. Dumb squirrel! Last edited by WT Sharpe; 06-02-2014 at 09:23 AM. |

Some years ago a grey squirrel gnawed its way through my gable vent into my attic and had a couple babies. In the wrong place they are relentless and destructive pests. (Not that those particular squirrels will be bothering anyone else.)

We had squirrels om our attic in the last house we had. The pitter-patter of their little feet might have given rise to the rumors that house had at one time of being haunted. I saw I next door neighbor shoot one out of a tree one day. So did his little girl. She came running out of the house screaming, "I hate you, Daddy!"

It would be bad enough if they just tore up the insulation and chewed on rafters and the aluminum ducts from the bathroom vents -- but there are a lot of wires up there! Many (most?) insurance companies have fine print saying they don't have to pay if your house burns down due to rodents chewing on wires.
I gave mine swimming lessons. They were very bad at it. |

And, while He was at it, he thought, "eh, what the hell, I'll make something cute that I call 'ground squirrels,' too." He did so; making one type that look like Eastern US chipmunks, and another that look like children's pet gerbils. Both are blessed with "Awwwwwwwwww" factor. And the Lord was happy with what he'd made. Meanwhile, assholes came to live in the Lord's creation. And He thought...hmmmm, maybe those creatures could also develop a craving for wire insulation, foam padding, and the like. This oughta move the Assholes out of my Freeview of Hell. But, humans being what we are...we moved here anyway. Some of us figure, well, what the hell, we need the free preview. Might as well become accustomed. Which was fine, up to the point that the little bastards ATE MY CAR. Seriously. The entire electrical system, some insulation in the engine compartment, hood insulators, you name it. When God got done laughing, the bill was just under $2K USD to get it fixed. I'm pretty pacifist when it comes to sharing my space with our critter neighbors--we have tarantulas that live under the front porch, a Coyote Crew that beds down in our copse, a Great Horned that sits on our roof at each full moon, "telling it, brother," but man...they ATE MY CAR. It's hard to be in synch with nature when they're eating your CAR. It ain't like we have mass transit out here. Hitch |

All of the squirrels in the Yukon are insane, maybe more so than the moose in New Brunswick. Generally we just politely step aside when we see one coming ( a little harder when a moose is charging your car), but by far the wisest choice. Queue doom music interspersed with chittering and lonesome moose mating calls.

Scatter mothballs around the edge of your attics and crawl spaces. It keeps out all the rodent population. No need to call an exterminator or the fire department. I discovered that it even kept a family of skunks from making a permanent home under my house. Simple and cheap solution to a very common problem.

Can I file a noise complaint against the police for their bloody helicopter continuously buzzing overhead for the last half hour?

Ha! The last laugh is on them! They probably got brain damage from the lead in the insulation.

Lol! I didn't mean to start a whole schtick with the squirrels! I wonder though if the moth balls might not help with the mousie population? I read something interesting the other day about cat urine actually attracting mice. I guess that would help make sense with them going out to the catio, peeing and that's what would lure them in? Ya think? Hmmmm
