I'm not a Christian ... although I suspect some of my cats may be. I haven't asked. It's not something we discuss.

I think that a lot of Christians would agree with you, Ricky. In the traditional liturgical calender, Christmas is preceded by Advent, which is a time of reflection, repentance and fasting. Then there's Christmas day (a major feast) with the 12 days of Christmas as holidays.

The rampant commercialism is impossible to reconcile with Advent. And by the day after Christmas, the whole thing has a sense of anti-climax. The intended meaning has been corrupted by the profiteers.

Yup ... my grandfather was a Christian minister. I remember when I was a kid getting my Advent calendar each year. That was the best part of the holiday. I loved that calendar. You opened up the little doors and there was a picture behind each one.

In our house, the tree was put up early in the day or Christmas Eve and taken down after Twelfth Night.

Of course, that was a long long time ago ... and I doubt most (supposedly) Christian children are taught much about Advent.

Loved 'em - morse toad indeed!

We have the same sort of thing, without the holiday or crown. It's called Laffy Taffy. They let third graders send in jokes to go on the wrappers. I think I'll stroll down to the gift shop in a little while and get some to eat and post the jokes.

It very definitely is not mousse proof. Although as I have no eggs at present, I can't make one. Or the 5 minute chocolate cake.
