The only true solution is mandatory birth control thru-out the world. Any bets on that happening? Nah. Or, lets go further. You want children? Fine. Prove you can support them. Harsh? Maybe. But what do you call life in the third world countries with starvation rampant? And yes, illegal immigration could be controlled, without dictatorship. But too many businessmen depend on the cheap labor provided to want that. Its not in their interests. Therefore, they hire them, and if there is a raid, no big deal. There are always more. Dry up the jobs, and illegals go somewhere else. You are new in this country, and already understanding that there are two sides to everything. Keep an open mind, listen to all sides, and make up your own mind. We are a great country, despite what many will tell you. Otherwise, why else are you here? |

That's how a great deal of the rest of the world sees us. Why do you think most people polled in foreign nations so badly wanted Obama to change that?

So we shouldn't act like we're the perfectest country their is, the Disneyland of nations. We have plenty of flaws, like using up the vast majority of the world's food and natural resources, and contributing disproportionately to global pollution. Like interfering with other governments to make them U.S.-friendly, and winding up our troops and sending them in whenever our gas-guzzling trucks are thirsty. Like feeling like the rest of the world ought to bow and scrape to us, like the rich uncle who buys the nephews the biggest toys for a Christmas he never shows up to see. And like accumulating debt we know we can't pay back, and letting our kids sweat it out. And plenty of Americans daily turn their heads and ignore all that because, after all, "I got mine," right? No, my country is far from perfect, and I'm well aware of it. While I work comfortably here, somewhere there's a guy in a fish suit, holding up a "Buy from Addie's Aquarium" sign in heavy traffic, choking on carbon monoxide fumes, sweating his b***s off and getting less than minimum wage to do it. And on the other side of the street is a homeless guy who hasn't eaten anything but dumpster trash in a week and wishes like hell that he could have that job. And I don't want it to be like that. I want it to be better. Plain and simple. |

If "the rest of the world" wanted Obama its because he's perceived as someone who can bring peace, prosperity, etc. Its a PR show.
The only Americans who are "happy" with the lower pay the illegals get, are the businessmen who hire them. Skilled carpenters aren't. Legitimate yardmen aren't. I don't know anyone too proud to work at whatever job it takes to make a living, do you? Close that avenue, and you have more skilled, higher paid jobs. Yes, prices would rise. But look at what you got for the lower prices......substandard building, and how many people have gone under even with the 'lower priced' homes built by illegals? American is not a Disneyland, by any means. And there will always be homeless, and people working in animal suits on corners. If you think thats bad, try living in Africa. Compared to third world countries, we're living in heaven. How much money has been thrown at these countries, only to be squandered by the corrupt governments? So maybe some of the blame needs to be put where it belongs, on the countries themselves. And how would you solve that? By throwing more money? All the money in the world is not going to solve the aids crisis, or starvation, or civil strife going on. Until people start acting like human beings, and not animals, this world will continue on the same course. And just for the heck of it, just how would you 'make it better'? |
