Which was OK. Some interesting nearly future space flight stuff, and a little intrigue and adventure. But I can't say I was ever concerned about any of the characters.

Now I'm reading Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb, the second in the Farseer series. Now here I have come to care about the characters, which is a problem because I can only see tragedy ahead.

I finished _Alloy of Law_. A decent book. I rated it 3.5 of 5 stars on LibraryThing. It didn't get me the same way that Mistborn did, probably cause it expects you know all about Allomancy so doesn't really explain it.

So, make sure you read the mist born trilogy before you read this one.

I just finished "The Steerswoman" by Rosemary Kirstein (recommended by covingtoncat73 and CRussel). An excellent adventure , and I am starting to read the sequel "The Outsider's Secret".

Bob, you might also add: Alloy Of Law is first of a trilogy. Book 2 is tentatively scheduled for fall 2014 and Book 3 for sometime in 2015. Some Mobilereaders prefer not to start a trilogy/series until all books are out (to avoid the Game Of Thrones will-it-ever-be-finished issue).

Next I'll read the 5 chapters of Skin Game (The Dresden Files #15) by Jim Butcher that have been posted on jim-butcher.com. Then I'll continue the book after the next-week release on Tuesday, May 27th!

On Thursday evening I finished reading Skin Game! LOVED IT!

On Friday I didn't much feel like going back to Savage Run. On Saturday I got a new freebie from Amazon Kindle First, a month before the publication date - Artful by Peter David. I'm at 12% and so far it's quite unusual and very interesting.

Oliver Twist is one of the most well-known stories ever told, about a young orphan who has to survive the mean streets of London before ultimately being rescued by a kindly benefactor.

But it is his friend, the Artful Dodger, who has the far more intriguing tale, filled with more adventure and excitement than anything boring Oliver could possibly get up to. Throw in some vampires and a plot to overthrow the British monarchy, and what you have is the thrilling account that Charles Dickens was too scared to share with the world.

From the brilliant mind of novelist and comic book veteran Peter David, Artful is the dark, funny, and action-packed story of one of the most fascinating characters in literary history.

It's an excellent continuation of the story. And yes, we're in the middle of the tragedy portion of the story, but with hints of light at the end of the darkness.

Next: Lightspeed Magazine #49 edited by Christie Yant. This is the special "Women Destroy Science Fiction" issue from their Kickstarter project.

I finished Skin Game a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it as well. Seemed to be one of the best of the Dresden books (IMHO).

I've just finished the latest Jo Nesbo novel, The Son. It's a stand alone novel (i.e. not part of the Harry Hole series) but, like the Harry Hole books, it's a well written thriller with plenty of twists and a decidedly dark side. I recommend it.

Just started Bleeding Edge by Thomas Pynchon.

I'm currently reading Soldier of the Mist by Gene Wolfe. It's historical fiction with some fantastical elements. A bit like in Mary Renault's books the fantastic elements are so far subjective. The main character is a Roman mercenary who forgets everything every time he sleeps. He writes down everything he does like the character in Memento.

I'm also reading Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. It's good but not as good as the first book. The narrative is considerably slower in pace and the locations are duller too.

What he said. Although, the story in this book is pretty stand alone and does "end". You could stop after this book and be satisfied with the story.

I've got it wait-listed at the library. Looking forward to it, even though it's not a Harry Hole book. (I'm about half way through the Harry Hole series, reading one every once in a while. They're a bit too dark for me to binge read. )

I finished A Trick of the Light a couple days ago. This is the 7th Gamache novel. I liked it, but not as much as the last two. I'll read the last few in the series, but probably closer to the Fall.

I finished Medicine Walk by Richard Wagamese last night. Wow, what a fantastic book! This is his third novel and it's even more powerful than Indian Horse, which was great.

Switching gears now and starting The Assassin's Apprentice because I've seen so much discussion of it here.

I just finished the Tormay fantasy trilogy by Christopher Bunn, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm now alternating between The Amazing Colossal Apostle by Robert Price, which argues that the Apostle Paul is a fictional character created by Marcion, and re-reading Timothy Zahn's Quadrail series.

I absolutely love Robin Hobb's work. The Liveship Traders Trilogy which is set in the same world and after the first Fitz trilogy is particularly excellent. I'm glad more people are reading the Fitz books because she has a new series with the some of the same characters coming in August. You should probably be able to read all of the Fitz books before then and the Liveship Traders trilogy and the Rain Wild Chronicles too. That's 13 books and most are weighty tomes.
