So Scribd responded to me that they will look into it. They want to know my kindles and what versions and since mine are of the older kind, can someone with the 2013 models Hd and Hdx confirm to me that it does the same thing so I can tell them that too?
Basically they want to know model, version and operating systems. I don't know anyone with a HDX or HD from 2013 to look that up or check the app on it. |

Atunah, I have the 7" 2013 Fire HDX. I am seeing the same thing you are when I use Scribed. I usually read on my iPad mini and I get a full screen on it. I am on version 13.3.2.2. I have no idea what operating system.
I also agree with Blossom that I think the blue around the edges of the 7" HDX would bother you. I can read on it, but it seems like I can read on anything. |

Thanks Blossom and Poodlemom. I'll send what I have to them.
I think I might get the Nexus for reading stuff and use my older 8.9 HD as I do now for my lovely hidden object games. Not sure how the Nexus would work with amazon apps as I only buy my stuff there. I have no interest buying anything from the google store. That is why I wish the Fire 7 hdx didn't use that blue lighting stuff as I have seen pictures of it and it would bother me. But overall I am just more of a amazon consumer and the Nexus makes me a bit nervous. I can't use prime videos on it, no idea how well the amazon apps work on it and for me the fire system is just very easy to use. Sigh. I just want something to be easy. But I will wait a bit first, send the info to Scribd and make do with the original fire for now. |

I wouldn't replace your Fire with another Fire. The 2012 Fires are very good tablets. And all of your Amazon apps should work on a Nexus 7, with the exception of all apps that are titled "kindle fire edition." Those only work on Fires.
My daughters LOVE hidden objects game. They have 20 or 30 on their Nook HDs. |

I have the Scribd app and it works fine on my Samsung Note Tablets. I have the 8" and the 10.1.

For those using a Kindle Fire and some of the other reader apps (calibre companion, moon reader pro, etc), have you been buying them in the Amazon store or from Google and sideloading?
I don't like the limitation with Amazon's version of apps that they periodically insist on connecting to the Amazon store (which requires WiFi) to check their licenses. OTOH, I have quite a few credits that I could spend there. I have mostly Kindle tablets, but we also have android phones, a nook tablet and a large and small samsung tablet. All but one are appstore compatible (the nook). The nook and generic devices are fine with Google, but sideloading on the Fires isn't a big deal (for me, usually). What reader (other than the one ScribD forces on you) are you all using? |

In my quest of trouble shooting, I went to 1mobile and got their scribd version which I installed. It went right over the other one without losing anything. First thing I noticed was that the screen is not having that white space on the right anymore and the version now says google play 3.5.1. I don't see any other differences. I could have sworn initially that the font looked clearer, but I am sure that is in my head as my Ofire has a 169 resolution so that is all there is. ![]() I am not sure I understand what you mean about what reader we normally use. You mean for reading in general? I use e-ink kindles. But obviously they can't use apps so I have to use a tablet. Last edited by Atunah; 05-30-2014 at 07:32 PM. |

NO current science fiction
Authors and titles.
Either the author is dead or the book is VERY old. I didn't like the search facility either. Lots of recommendations though. They kept recommending stuff I had no interest in. I cancelled after a couple hours of use, I couldn't see myself getting $9 of use out of it a month. |

I am going to cancel the subscription before the 3 months free expires. There is simply not enough content available in my country. Most of the authors I'm interested in are not available. No Hemingway. No fantasy authors of any sort. Their advertising is extremely misleading on this point actually.
I like the service and the execution for the most part is quite good. The search function is terrible precisely because so much of their content is US only. I think they should have focused on getting more content available before expanding beyond the US. |

I also have a book by Michael Gruber that might be fantasy, but I'm not familiar with his work at all, so could be wrong on that one. I had others, but already read them so moved them out. I'm kind of curious about the country limitations. I also saw Robin Hobb and Terry Goodkind (both fantasy although neither falls under particular favorites). No Robin Hobb, no Neil Gaiman, no Trudi Canavan,no Raymond Feist. The selection here is mostly self-published dreck with a handful of decent sci-fi and history books. I don't know how they expect anyone to pay $8.99 for this rubbish.

![]() What shows up at the top also depends on how you sort. I sorted by most recent and got a lot of self-published stuff, but another sort showed those authors plus Octavia Butler, C. S. Lewis, Ian Douglas, Ben Bova, Greg Bear, Stephen Baxter, Timothy Zahn, Nancy Kress, and John Norman. I hope they get this straightened out. It sucks to join expecting to read Hemingway, only to realize the only Hemingway book is by Mariel Hemingway. ![]() Last edited by Critteranne; 05-31-2014 at 01:18 AM. |
