Kindle App on Windows 8 PC - Files stored where?

Does anyone know where the Kindle app downloads files when I download them to the PC? Is there any way that I can set the download destination folder?

Appreciate any assistance!

Never mind, found the answer on the Amazon Discussion group (User/Local/Packages/AMZNMobileLLC.KindleforWindows8.random letters/LocalState/Cache). I wanted to import the files to Calibre, but they are downloaded in fragments. Seems to make for VERY slow downloading!

I'll see if I can run an earlier version on another PC.

Do not use the Kindle Metro app for Win8.

Use the Kindle 4 PC application that runs on all (recent, I doubt it will work on Win98, WinME and anything else pre-XP) versions of Windows.

The metro app uses the aforementioned fragments which are unusable unless you are happy sticking with the app. The full-fledged application downloads actual books.

I'm running the Kindle 4 PC application on two Win8.1u1 machines, one's a big desktop and the other is an 8" tablet. Despite Amazon listing Win7 as the newest OS, it runs fine on all variants of Win8.

That worked perfectly. I had gotten some error msg so I'd figured I had to update the Kindle App. But no...

Of course I read your post AFTER spending hours fiddling with my very slow XP PC.

But at least I am all set up for the future!
