Rgeog, I don't know the answer to your question. I think it is different for different countries.

I've always seen the spot for the promo code as soon as I hit buy in the US store for either the new or old checkout. I wonder what's different?

I'm using old checkout so there's no cart available. Each transaction has only one item. Most discount coupons are one-time use, so yes, it's only applicable to one transaction (one item). I'll need another discount coupon for another book.

That is what I meant--you actually have to hit buy, enter your payment info and then it is the NEXT screen that asks you for the info. I am not explaining it well, but intuitively it is missing from where I would expect it--and is actually one screen later.

I would expect it right after I click buy, but apparently I am talking about a different buy button. I don't enter my payment info so I see the coupon as soon as I leave the book page after hitting buy there.

AH, I do not. I click buy and then there is a place for gift cert or payment info. The book is listed with a total. Then I hit Buy again and THEN I see a place for promo codes.

It depends on if you have a CC saved or not. If a CC is saved the payment info screen is skipped.

I got the Italian email and also the apogoly (in German) but no code (just because German books can't be discounted doesn't mean no books can) - not that I'm all that keen on a 20% off coupon.
