I just so happened to be ready for a new book when Audible poked me that my preorder was available this morning, so I started the audiobook on my commute. Maybe I should have at least re-read Cold Days--I'm having to piece together some of the history and relationships again as they come up in the text. So far I'm still mostly in the "set up" phase, so I can't comment much on the story. It's Harry.

You can read the books in any particular order, at least the first 6 or 7, before certain major events happen. I listened to almost all the audio books and they were fine, except for an occasional reference to an event that I hadn't read about.
Last week I started reading Changes (#12 I think,) because it was the one audio book I missed, and continued on to read the rest of the books in order. I am almost done reading Cold Days, the last book before Skin Game, which just came out today (May 27th.)
I have not read Side Jobs, which is the short stories collection, or any of the graphic novels.

I think it's best to start at the beginning. I did so in January. I would have been caught up and ready to start Skin Games by now, but various events have limited my listening time. Still, the ride is great. I'm about 5 hours into the audiobook "Changes" which is book 12. Very exciting, but you really need to know what happened in prior books to truly enjoy it, IMHO. I expect to be completely caught up in June.

If you don't know if you will like it, keep in mind that many libraries have ecopies of Dresden Files. I just started my sister on Storm Front, which is the first, from our library (I only have audiobooks).
