I am thoroughly enjoying Scribd and I think I will continue after the 3 month trial is up. I do hope they improve the search feature, but the poor search function has had me browsing a lot through the categories. If I see something that interests me, I put it in my library to get back to later. Ok, back to reading

I am not going to keep it. I decided to get the out if state library card for Brooklyn Public library instead, which is $50/yr versus $108/yr.

I'm so glad I remembered this thread and decided to try out this deal.
![]() However, the Search function needs to be taken out to the woodshed. Or more likely the compost heap. |

Trying to read a Scribd book on the Paperwhite browser. It doesn't work well. Too bad. I would keep it if I could read it like that.

The book was excellent and that means that I was reading for long periods of time and it's simply not as comfortable doing it on the laptop. They need much darker text for one thing and for two, I want to download to my Kindle and read. |

Get yourself a tablet like a Nexus 7. I read on mine for hours and it's really comfortable.

A tablet is not in my near future. I type a LOT of words and really do most of my reading on an e-ink e-reader. It is a disadvantage of the subscription route, but I sure have been able to sample a lot of books. I think I sampled 15 or so this weekend and read quite far on some. Saving Gracie was the winner by a long shot. It's really nice to have the ability to just read and sample as far as I want to go. Other than the eye discomfort there wasn't any real problems. I prefer an e-reader in my hand for page turns (I have one with a button, no swiping needed). The cursor tended to roam a bit/drift so when turning pages, I sometimes had to stop and reposition the cursor rather than click to turn the page. When it's in the other mode, I can hit page down and I like that better. No cursor to worry about. |

I'd be lost without my tablet. It's my goto for everything while doing this move. Laptop screens are too low quality to read on for me. My tablet has good ppi and awesome text rendering that blows eink out of the water. My kindles are packed away. No eye strain because you can really turned down the brightness unlike on a laptop. As for typing you can get a keyboard if necessary for the Nexus. Right now I am using a tiny phone to type on. No Internet till tomorrow. I miss my tablet's keyboard.

See, I was going to follow Blossom's advice and get a Nexus 7 and then I saw the iPad mini with retina display and upsold myself to that and now I have been playing Angry Birds Go as much as I've been reading.
![]() Just checked my goodreads shelves and so far I have read 22 books on Scribd. I think I'm getting pretty good value for my not-yet-money there. ![]() |

The search feature is truly loathsome.
As for reading, while I think it direly needs more settings, especially the ability to turn off line spaces between paragraphs, I'm reasonably happy with the overall experience on my Nook HD+. My biggest guilty pleasure is Star Trek novels - I've read four of them in the last two days thanks to Scribd and they have hundreds more since they got on board with Simon and Schuster. Once my trial is up, I may keep with it just for the Trek books, though I do have the free year so at this rate I might just run through them all... It's great for me because I have found something I both like and have trouble spending the money on. |

That free year expires at the end of .. May? I think. Check that email. There is an expiration for signing up for it. Finished and reviewed Saving Gracie by Nancy DeMarco at the blog. Well worth a read if you like mysteries. An excellent read if you can get the search engine to find it. |

I sent them a long letter of feedback about their search and cataloguing (WHY do they intermingle their YA and Children's fiction even in subcategories? That's mostly not an overlapping readership.)
