He/she did mention it I think. Anyway he/she is still having a bit of difficulty and is not rude or demanding so I am good with helping whether it works or not.

If you just want an (almost) easy way to make a shorter list perhaps this might do it.

Quote:
A savage place: a Spenser novel (Spenser [8]) * Robert B. Parker
School days (Spenser [33]) * Robert B. Parker
Sea Change (Jesse Stone [5]) * Robert B. Parker
Shrink Rap (Sunny Randall [3]) * Robert B. Parker
Sixkill (Spenser [40]) * Robert B. Parker
Small vices (Spenser [24]) * Robert B. Parker
Spare Change (Sunny Randall [6]) * Robert B. Parker
Split Image (Jesse Stone [9]) * Robert B. Parker
Stardust (Spenser [17]) * Robert B. Parker
Stone cold: a Jesse Stone novel (Jesse Stone [4]) * Robert B. Parker
Stranger in Paradise (Jesse Stone [7]) * Robert B. Parker
Sudden Mischief (Spenser [25]) * Robert B. Parker
T
Taming a sea-horse: a Spenser novel (Spenser [13]) * Robert B. Parker
Thin air (Spenser [22]) * Robert B. Parker
Three Weeks in Spring * Robert B. Parker & Joan H. Parker
Trouble in Paradise (Jesse Stone [2]) * Robert B. Parker
V
Valediction (Spenser [11]) * Robert B. Parker
W
Walking shadow (Spenser [21]) * Robert B. Parker
The widening gyre: a Spenser novel (Spenser [10]) * Robert B. Parker
Widow's walk (Spenser [29]) * Robert B. Parker
Wilderness * Robert B. Parker
Make an epub catalog with only titles checked. Will give you list as above
Will give you one line per book plus one for each letter of alphabet plus 5 for title

Convert to txt (notepad file) with calibre
Select book and open with ALT-V (click txt and should open in notepad)
or click TXT in the book details panel.
remove extra lines

Not ideal I know, but might do for now?

there's a 3rd party alternative route
grab a shareware utility that can capture & print-to-file a copy of folder+subfolder contents ( as seen in windows explorer) . I use printfolderpro

run that against calibre library then play with the settings & sort options until it's a decent list

then paste the output into a word or excel or whatever & do the final tweaks
if you only have one format per book this get you close, quickly

book print out

Still here hehe; I managed to copy paste the list from note pad into libre writer now all I have to figure out is how to add spaces between the lines to tidy up this 8 page list; never give up haha making progress .

Can I ask hope its ok the book list in calibre ; where are the stored; I see I have calibre library folder then I made up an e book folder and then an e pub folder that has e pub books from free book sites.

Notice that if I delete a book ; its still in calibre so guessing theirs are copies of the same title spread about in folders .

Still don t get using a spread sheet was clicking about aimlessly cluelessly till I hit a bingo haha : )

Where are the book files stored?

When you first run calibre, it will ask you for a folder in which to store your books. Whenever you add a book to calibre, it will copy the book into that folder. Books in the folder are nicely arranged into sub-folders by Author and Title. Note that the contents of this folder are automatically managed by calibre, do not add any files/folders manually to this folder, as they may be automatically deleted. If you want to add a file associated to a particular book, use the top right area of Edit metadata dialog to do so. Then, calibre will automatically put that file into the correct folder and move it around when the title/author changes.

Metadata about the books is stored in the file metadata.db at the top level of the library folder This file is is a sqlite database. When backing up your library make sure you copy the entire folder and all its sub-folders.

The library folder and all it’s contents make up what is called a calibre library. You can have multiple such libraries. To manage the libraries, click the calibre icon on the toolbar. You can create new libraries, remove/rename existing ones and switch between libraries easily.

You can copy or move books between different libraries (once you have more than one library setup) by right clicking on a book and selecting the Copy to library action.
You can open a book by clicking the correct format in the book details pane at the right side. (or by Alt-V) Right clicking lets you delete a file and other options.
http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/gui.html#book-details

If you paste your list into WordPad or whatever the libre office word processor is it should do the spacing a bit better than notepad.

To do it in WordPad. select text , right click on selected text, uncheck the box for adding space between paragraphs and it will be nicely spaced.

Ok I have an e book and pdf and caliber book folders; how do I add books from the e book or pdf folders into the caliber folder and then do they update that book list and then are readable from calibre ?

Then when I delete books are they deleted from all three folders or just the calibre folder or none and can that be fixed ?

Ideally would love to add e bk and pdf folder books into the calibre folder so then calibre would alert me to the dups which I would then delete and then as I use the grid thingy in calibre which I got after a needed update; thanks to the others for helping in another post; the covers come up; would then books I don't care for and wouldn' t they be deleted as I reviewed the covers and read the descriptions ? Whew . .

Is that doing combining folders the deleting dubs and then covers I don t care
to read ? Hope that makes sense .

And ops got the book list into libre office but still messy no correct spacing so clicking about looking for add blank line s not giving up haha : }

Later . i

The grid thingy is the Graphical user interface or GUI for short.
When you delete books using calibre the book is deleted from the calibre directory and sent to the recycle bin. The other folders you must delete them yourself as calibre knows nothing about them.

There are several ways to add books to calibre, but you must know at least one already if you made a catalogue?

I usually drag and drop which leaves the original book where it is so you have 2 copies.

Clicking the arrow beside add books on the toolbar shows you the options
Selecting the bottom option 'Control adding of books will let you set up an automatic adding function that will add all of the books in a directory you choose. (second tab automatic adding) Then it deletes the original leaving you with only one copy in your calibre directory. I haven't used this option but lots of people do.

Try WordPad, it is part of Windows and pretty basic and will do the spacing job.

ok I have three folders; 2 are ebooks ; one is caliber; when I load books into the reader how does calibre know to create its own folder to place those books in that folder ?

But if I create e bookls folders and then use the reader add books to calibre it won t add those books to that folder but keeps them in the e books folders even tho I can use the reader to read them/ print them as needed ?

that I don t understand yet.

and can I get the 2 e book folders; which have a combo of e pub and pdf books into the calibre book folder then delete those folders seeing how they would then be listed in the calibre book folder for the reader to use/print from as needed ?

Why keep the e book folders assuming I get get them combined into one folder wihich is calibre ?

Hope that makes sense still a bit mixed up.

If by reader you mean calibre's ebook-viewer, it merely open books like Word opens .docs -- the main calibre program is a library and imports the books into its database.

Some people, like me, want to keep the original copy. But others delete them. Your choice.

I don't think you can add books from the viewer.
If all of your books are in one or two folders you can drag and drop them to calibre or use the add books menu then delete them from their original folder.
