I thought that it was supposed to be separated in two tags?

That is two separate tags, that is what the ',' there means.

Yes I did, I'm sorry for not answering sooner. We're plauged by bad wifi because of thunderstorms ... Oddly enough when I add the Characters in the tags (the normal tags) it separates them nicely ... I don't understand that

I've tried more than one site, but all of them show up as only being "one" character.

If you want them act like tags you have to make the column the tag-like text version. See attached.

I did that, and they still show up as only one tag, even though there are more than one name. I've also chosen in the plugin to show "characters" in that column. I've attached my screenshots.

You have to uncheck 'Contains Names' in the column definition.

With 'Contains Names' checked, calibre ignores commas and splits on '&' instead.

Actually, thinking about it, there's another way that can be useful if the site uses commas as part of the character names:

join_string_characters=\s&\s

...and keep 'Contains Names' checked.

Then FFDL will make the list of characters as: "Bob & Fred & George" and calibre will split them.

However, it does mean that that character list in the title page will also appear with (&) instead of (,).

Hey Jimm! Is there any reason why the plugin currently blocks Calibre entirely while fetching metadata for stories? Downloading chapters when updating a story also works in Calibre's tray, without blocking the rest of the GUI.

There are several reasons, all to do with being able to get additional feedback from the user:

So that FFDL can stop and ask the user if they are an adult or for a user/pass if one is needed but not configured.
To stop and check with the user when a story URL is found on their Reject List.
To stop and check with the user when the story is part of an anthology that's already in the library.
To stop and check with the user when there's a story with matching title & author, but that would change the story URL.

And I forgot to mention perhaps the most important: Checking for updates.

Whether it's to get the chapter count or the last updated date, I assume that many or most FFDL uses will be Update Epub or Overwrite if Newer on existing stories.

I assume there is no way to run the task as a background job and only show a message prompt when it is really necessary, i.e. suspend the task until user input is received? Your points of course all make sense, but personally I never run into these things.

If it's simply not possible with Calibre's API or too much work for a rarely requested feature I understand of course.
