I'd have bought an Aura if it weren't for those random pinholes. I was looking at the Glo because I'd like a light. I think I'll wait until the next gen screens/readers are released.

I'm plodding on with my Touch which BTW is the best Kobo product according to Consumers Report. According to them none of Kobo's products are better than the competition though.

I checked out the Aura in store. I saw no pinholes. It looks very nice. The flat-screen is super-swish. If I could 'root' it, I'd probably buy one.

The Aura looked okay to me. I need to look more closely.

I don't want to offend any Glo owners, but I've always thought it looks cheap and nasty compared to the PW1 / Aura HD, and now the Aura 6". I don't like the light around the bevel. I guess I could get used to that, but it's the fact that the light can't be turned down lower that's the show-stopper for me. As I said, I don't wish to offend. That's just my opinion.

That Aura does look good, but functionally I don't think it is an improvement on the Glo. The Glo's replacable internal storage, infrared touch, and "rubbery" matt case material are the reasons I would go for the Glo instead of the Aura.

I think the Aura should have had a smaller version of the AuraHD's 265dpi screen, say 1280x960 pixels, that would have made it a distinct step forward from the Glo. As it is it seems more of a step sideways.

Did you look at the date of that report? I can't see how the Touch would be better than the products that were produced later.

What do you mean by "root" it? You don't need to root or jailbreak a Kobo in order to install whatever alternative readers or apps you can write/find. It's Linux, not Android.

The lighting is more even, the two-finger light swipe (compared to an untweaked Glo) is useful, and I find the capacitive touch performs a little better, with less training of the user required to touch 'carefully'. (It doesn't freeze here, so no need for capacitive gloves.) I've no opinion on case material because mine's always in a cover.

ETA: I've also discovered another benefit of the capacitive touch: a cat's tail doesn't set it off. (Paws still do, though.)

Can't disagree with you there! That's quite likely their next step with the Aura 6", I would have thought.

I find the Aura superior to the Glo. I don't care about the replaceable internal storage. I like the touch screen. Love the case material. Love the edge to edge screen. Love the smaller size and lighter weight. The Aura has become my favorite reader.

Are you trying to tempt me to buy yet ANOTHER Kobo?!

Shame on you!

The report was in the most recent "Electronics" issue (spring or summer 2014). The Glo was the second highest Kobo product on the list followed by the two Auras further down. Compared to the competition Consumer Reports thought they were all middle of the pack.

Interesting. I am willing to make a guess that they base a huge part of their ratings on cross-device syncing, and ebook store size, at least as far as putting it "middle of the pack." Those features seem very important, to reviewers.

IMO the Glo is definitely not superior to the Aura or Aura HD. The Aura HD is super nice, with the large HD screen and interesting back ridges. It is a luxury device. The Aura is a super sweet little reader. I don't take the Aura HD out in my bag, due it's size. The Aura is perfect for taking out. (Of course so is the Glo, and the Mini). I feel the lighting is better on the Aura, than on the Glo, but the lighting on the Glo varies across devices (based on my control group of 2).

Oh! And I forgot the killer feature, which is that the light goes way, way down low. It's easy to read even right up close in a pitch dark room.

The Aura is only a tad larger than the mini, but so much more screen, the light... of course you need it :-)
