I see Waterstones, I paid to Amazon to remove Special Offers.
It's strange because the KUAL extensions are working so I think my PW1 is jailbroken correctly, but margins hack (in jbpatch thread an user reported it also works with the new firm) and Screensavers hack are not in 5.4.4.2. |

Yup, Waterstones, there you go.
![]() There should be a dedicated button for that in the KUAL extension (at the bottom of the ScreenSavers menu). Enable that, and restart your device. |

At the bottom of that menu there is a button called Flag for complete uninstall. It's not that, is it?

You're completely right, it was at the bottom of my pager (so, err, not even *remotely* at the bottom of the list of entries... ^^), not how KUAL actually displays it, my bad
![]() Should be around the fourth button, and pretty explicit (i.e. there's Waterstones in the name). |

My Kindle PW1 got OTA updated to firmware 5.4.4.2. I went to install the python and screensaver packages, using Update_python_0.10.N_install_touch_pw.bin and Update_linkss_0.17.N_install_touch_pw.bin but the python one won't install. (The linkss one installs OK but has no effect, presumably it needs the python one to work first.) It fails with error 006. The relevant error in the log seems to be:
140521:095536 system: I python:update:generating bytecode...: 140521:095536 system: C python:update:code=126:failed to generate python bytecode for the standard lib Any ideas how I can fix this please? Thanks! |

So does this screensaver thingy work with pw2 5.4.3.2 update? No special offers, no jailbreak just pure pw2 here... Thanks,

I redid the jailbreak, in case that was necessary, but the python package still wouldn't install; same error 006. But next time the Kindle went to sleep - my custom screensaver was back again. Go figure! ![]() I just checked and it survives the Kindle restarting too. |

python is only required for cover mode, as the tool to extract mobi7/8 resources is written in python.
Sideloaded screensavers work without python. |

@davebiff: Given the timing in those install logs, I'd put my money on an outdated jailbreak.
Which version of the FW were you running before the update? (And as eschwartz said, Python is only needed for the cover mode, although an outdated jailbreak would also have rendered the whole hack ineffective, regardless of that). EDIT: Note that for the updated jailbreak to 'take' (in that specific instance), you will have to restart your device ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 05-21-2014 at 03:57 PM. |

I've successfully Jailbroke my US PW2 with 5.4.3.2 and installed kindle-linkss-0.17.N.zip and the covers option is not working.

@just_jeepin-
First thing is to be sure that you are disconnecting the usb cable whenever you do an update and/or restart. If that is not the issue, what are you seeing for screensavers if you are not seeing book covers? |

@just_jeepin: Also, your 'just the default' is ambiguous. What do you see? Amazon's default screensavers, the hack's default custom screensaver, or the cover mode placeholder?
As usual, make sure Windows isn't being sneaky and adding a .txt extension to your file. Using KUAL, besides being practical, is a good way to make sure the process is done correctly. Last edited by NiLuJe; 05-22-2014 at 10:11 AM. |
