Trying to convert book from AZW to ePub.

It has been over 8 hours and still at 47%

Calibre is not frozen, I can still view other books, change metadata, etc.

Any advice on how long I should let this run or how to convert the book to ePub. The book is 1.8 MB larger than the average book.

Just one problem BetterRed, it is using so much CP resources that I can't do anything else with my computer. Everything is slow / sluggish.

For future reference you should be able go to Preferences - Behavior and change Job priority from Normal to Low. This will ensure that in situations like the above your machine will still remain responsive.

My setting as been set to Job priority: Low for 4 years.

In Preferences->Behaviour what is the Job Priority setting. I have mine at Low, and in Preferences->Miscellaneous I have Max simultaneous.... as 1, and Limit the max. simult... unchecked. For me those settings results in calibre jobs not interfering with me doing other things

But changing them in mid flight probably wont make any difference.

If you're using Windows, you could try changing the priority of the calibre task (it'll be a calibre-parallel.exe task) that's hogging the CPU in Task Manager (ctrl/shift/esc). Right click the task in the Processes Tab and select priority, try setting it to Below Normal, if that's not good enough try Low.

Chnging the preferences mid flight should be impossible. You cannot edit Preferences (except from plugin config shorcuts, that don't check -- this is an accident I am sure) while jobs are running.

Well it has been running over 30 hours. I honestly don't think it is ever going to convert the file

Priority was already at low. I only allow 1 convert at a time.

If you still have it, grab the log and post it here - to get log double click the job in the job queue (under the spinner bottom right)

What sort of book is it ?

around 37 hours to convert the file. lmao. Just for a freaking book my niece says she is 'dying to read'

Never had one that went above a few hours. I guess this book wanted to be difficult.

I restarted my computer or would give you the exact time. When I woke up and saw it finished I closed everything and restarted. Everything was slow, sluggish. I honestly never knew it would take so long. But thankfully Kovid created an amazing program.

I was ready to give up. If the book was available anywhere else than Amazon I would have purchased it and forgot about converting
