Just finished reading this one. It was an engrossing book. Lots of twists and turns. A five star mystery. I really want to continue reading the rest of the "Miss Marple" mysteries but they're not really cheap; I got this one for $8. So I've set eReaderIQ yesterday to track Agatha Christie books for price drops and I've so far received six alerts by email, but all of them were "Hercule Poirot" mysteries.

Next up: The Grail Tree by Jonathon Gash. The next (third?) in his Lovejoy series. Some bits one winces at, but I like the stories overall.

The misogynistic elements? They are rather noticeable in his books, I find.

I think one has to accept these as being the prevalent British social attitudes of the 1970s, when the books were written. I was a teenager in the 1970s, and I certainly remember drunk driving as being socially acceptable, although of course illegal.

Yes, I agree it's a question of accepting that the books are of their time.

I was much more able to take the TV series, where these elements were played down. I found the books just a bit too much and abandoned them. Loved the stories, hated the misogyny.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke. Nice cozy mystery.

The Real Thing by Brenda Jackson. Good romance, super easy read.

Currently reading: Die Trying by Lee Child. Enjoying so far.

Well, I certainly enjoyed it. Not, perhaps, the best of the Phryne series, but still very enjoyable. I'm going to do a quick re-read of the first in the series at some point this month, but not immediately. Right now I've got Time's Echo, a novella by Rysa Walker that is my Amazon Prime Lending Library book for the month. Also on tap is Never Cry Wolf, by Farley Mowat. I read this years and years ago, but wanted to do a re-read now.

Finished the Rysa Walker novella. OK, not great. OTOH, reading Farley Mowat is always a pleasure. I'm enjoying Never Cry Wolf immensely. I'm going to have to go put a couple of others of his on hold at the library.

Not quite up to the first two in terms of plot, IMO. I'll read the rest of the ones I have eventually. I wonder if Lovejoy changes in more recent books.

Next up: Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Looking good so far.

Finished Never Cry Wolf. Definitely 5 out of 5 for me. A quote from the book:

We have doomed the wolf not for what it is, but for what we deliberately and mistakenly perceive it to be –the mythologized epitome of a savage ruthless killer – which is, in reality, no more than a reflected image of ourself.

Next up, another Miss Silver. This one is #4 In the Balance, also published as Danger Point. I had to break down and buy this one - I took a look at the books lined up to release at DPC and it wasn't even in the queue, so I used a coupon at Kobo. It's certainly not absolutely required to read the Miss Silver books in order, but I like the orderliness of doing so.
